Default Getting our deposit back

Hi

just wondered if anyone could help, we have moved out of our prperty which we left in good condition, we did however burn a small hole on a worktop in the kitchen no bigger than a 5p piece which we were expecting a small deductions say £50 but my eyes nearly popped out of my head when they emailed us to say they would be deducting £483 for the burn!!

this was the quote they sent us
Supply and fitting of new worktop in the kitchen due to the old one being burnt to include
Removing of the current hob and sink
Removing of the current worktop
Supply and fitting of new worktop to match the existing (special order)
Refitting of the hob and sink
Replacing any tiles that may get broken while removing the worktops

Materials
Worktops £150.32
Sundry items £20.00
Labour £230.00
Cost £400.32 plus VAT at the current rate

They have also said that there was a burn on the lino but we never damaged the lino. which is where the charge for an extra £60 comes from.

We wish to dispute this do we have much chance of winning? also the quote has come from the agents own maintenance company, so cant help but feeling their up to no good

Annoying thing is we didn't even take a picture of this burn as it was so minimal! and its our word against theirs with the damage to the lino, we are going to offer them £50 for the damage and if they don't accept take them through the small claims, if it comes to court do have much of a chance of winning?

Hope someone can give me some advice!

how old was the worktop? Did you sign an initial inventory upon moving into the property? Did it detail the condition of the worktop?

the worktop was fitted in 2005, there wasn't any mention of it in the iventory, but we did cause the burn, a baking tray smashed and burnt a small hole, with regards to to other part of the deposit can we take that back while we dispute the £483 or do we have to agree an amount before we get any of it back?

Some of the costs are justified, but not the entirety - for a start he is not replacing like for like. Did you sign the inventory?

we had to redo the inventory because of the amount of marks and stains that were missed on the original iventory but we didn't sign it
