Default Warm Front Grants

Not sure if folk are aware of this one or not, but Warm front Grants are a gov. funded scheme to make homes "warmer, healthier and more energy-efficient"....

.... but did you know that it covers the cost of a new boiler as well ? I have just had some lovely young men here over the past 2 days fitting a brand new boiler at absolutely no cost to myself !

The conditions are that you need to be in receipt of some kind of means-tested Benefit... in my case, it had to be both Working/Child Tax credits...

There was an initial shortfall of £270, which I was liable for... but on contacting my local council, they ageed to cover the additional cost of removing/disposing of my old boiler and (asbestos) flue. The old boiler was in working order before the grant was approved for the new one, but as it was in excess of 15 years old and my only source of heating/hot water, it was approved.

I'm not sure of the relevance, but I own my own home and don't rent.... but I assume that tenants/landlords could apply in the same way.

Very happy....

These warm front grants are fantastic, but doubt my landlord would allow me to go ahead with one as he will think it will cost him something, Im still awaiting a new rad in the bathroom (which is not connected) and new windows as the ones that are here are rotting away .. I think there is a tree growing out of the bedroom window lol
well done

It might be worth getting the assessor round anyway though.... he will put something in writing before anything gets going anyway, so you always know where you stand. You could then show this to your landlord.
