Default finding a landlord/owner for a property.

Is there a way that I could find the landlord/owner of a property that was let/or will be let/and was let.
The problem is that my neighbours who rented the property have just moved out leaving the garden in a serious state of disrepair, especially the fence which has collapsed.
There has been some workmen in and out doing something but I couldnt get to ask them who owned the property so I could ask about the fence, it is a little worrying for the lady who lives downstairs as she has two small children who play out side, not so much at the moment because of the weather, although they are supervised whilst out side but you can never always keep your eyes on them all the time.. you can see theres an accident waiting to happen, any help would be great
thanks

Go here: Land Register Online and £3for you will be able to download a copy of the register of the property that will give you the name and address of the owner. Hopefully the address noted will not be the same as the property. If the property is not registered there is no easy way of discovering the owner.

If title to the property in question is not registered -

1. Write a letter to him, address it to the property he owns, and post it. There is usually a mail redirection in force for the landlord's personal mail, so the Post Office with deliver it to his real address.

Even if there is no mail redirection in force, he will no doubt make arrangements to collect his mail from the property periodically.

2. Write to him care of the letting agents he uses.

If the property is advertised for letting, a phone call to each of the local letting agents will quickly reveal which of them is handling it.

Alternatively, look in your local paper. The property lettings page will no doubt include this property, if the owner is trying to re-let it. The advert will include some form of contact details for the letting agents he is using.

I doubt very much that any letting agent will allow this landlord to let it out in the state that it is in, it looks like a tip inside and out. Ive decided that if nothing is done in two weeks we are going to enviromental health to see if they can trace the owner.

In that case, bear in mind that the local authority's Council Tax department will hold details of the address of the landlord, for the purpose of billing him for periods when the property is vacant.

They won't disclose it to you, but they probably will to Environmental Health.
