Question Admin fees to letting agents

Hi, im a bit new to this but i thought id try and get some help off you if i could. My partner and i are moving to a flat in southampton and arranged with a letting agents to move into a flat on the 4th of July as they said it was the earliest they could get us in there. We agreed to this and transferred the holding deposit and signed the holding deposit form and faxed it to them as we live a good 150 miles away. My partner was starting work on the 25th so he had to arrange to stay in a b and b for the first ten days. then we got a phone call yesterday saying that we couldnt have the flat because there had been a misunderstanding and it had never been available. We called the landlord straight away and he was very generous with us and said we could move into a different flat straight away for the first month because it would put us out too much to pay for a b&b for so long. Now this is all sorted out though i was wondering whether or not we should refuse to pay administration fees with the estate agents, as the work they have done so far was wrong and they messed us around so much. Is there any legal implications to what they have done (considering the holding deposit specified that they would not rent the flat to anyone else and we could have it on the 4th of July) that could give us reason not to pay the admin fees??

Sorry, I have read this through twice, and still can't understand the precise problem.

Separating into paragraphs and a chronology of events would help as the sentences just run into each other.

sorry i did write all of that in a bit of a hurry, the only problem we have here is that the estate agents (who made the mistake of telling us the flat was available on the 4th and we sent the money for a deposit along with signing the holding deposit form) charge administration fees of £200, and we have arranged everything seperately with the landlord now, so will we still have to pay the administration fees that the letting agents will be trying to charge us?
