Misleading prices of laptops in stores!!!

I recently bought a laptop and was told I received a months free PC insurance of £7.99 and free anti-virus software worth £29.99 with any of the laptops! We later found out these weren't free and had been added to the price of the laptop. Luckily my husband realised the anti-virus software wasn't free and we refused it meaning the laptop became £30 cheaper but the advisor insisted the insurance was free but I found out from they're helpline that it isn't!

That means PC world are conning customers as all the laptops are actually £38 cheaper than the prices they display! Are they allowed to mislead consumers?! Can I get the so called free months insurance cost back?

The pricing is perfectly clear, and displays both the price with and without Norton. The extended warranty prices are both clearly displayed too.

If you were led into it taking it by being told it was free without reading the details on the card in front of the item carefully or reading your invoice then that's a case of taking a package based on the advice of an advisor - it's either a case of being missold or not being careful enough with the information you were given before deciding.

Having seen their new pricing I don't like it, because it seems to be pushing people into a software package they don't like (because IMO it is rubbish). But it is perfectly clear if you read it.

Just to add to that. If you did not see the board but were advised of it being free, then you should expect to pay the price that the computer is available for without the AV. If it is more, it is not free.

Looking at the shrinking groceries thread, I think I'm gonna do a post on "offers" and whether they are or not.

The board does clearly state something like

PC + Norton £ 429.99

Price of standalone PC £ 399.99

or something like that
As well as the monthly price of the PC Performance.

If you look at the board it's perfectly clear.

But if a salesman then says "you can have norton free of charge" then I would expect the £399.99 to be paid - even after seeing the sign. If he says it is free then I would want to see that exact PC without AV at the price with it.

They probably offered you the 'first month free'. They basically deduct £7.99 from the laptop price and take your direct debit details to set up the monthly insurance, thats what they did for us.
