Default Sony laptop LCD fault.

I purchased a Sony Vaio laptop from PC world just over 18 months ago. The LCD screen on the laptop has stopped working and is faulty.

I rang PC world technical support and i am looking at £300-£400 to get it repaired.

Have I got any rights under the sale of goods act for a claim?

If you can prove it was an inherent fault, yes.

Hi

You should be able to claim for the repair under the S.O.G.A. First of all do a search with Google to see if there has been a manufacturers recall. If there has, there maybe a contact number / address to use.

After looking at the search engine, the common faults are dark screen, which is an inverter or a screen / lid button fault.

The Laptop should last a lot longer than 18 months, and it is priced at the higher end of the Laptop market.

Is it the PC World shop you have complained to, or the head office, customer service?

Hi

It was Technical support who I rang to find out how much the repair would be.

I have not yet complained to PC world about the problem.

The problem is my screen went really bright and the response time was really slow on the screen.

And your right, this laptop cost me £1270.

PC Advisor website online has some posts about these faults. There have been a few complaints simular to yours. Toshiba use the same LCD Screen, and there have been reports with their Laptops too. ..

£400 is overpriced You haven't said what model it is or size of screen but I fix laptops / notebooks and a new 15" screen fitted is £195 (£45 labour)

15.4" screens are £170
17" screens are £190

one other point to make is pcworld will charge for a origional lcd screen, may be worth asking about the prices of a cheap generic screen may not have glare etc on it but will work and will be alot cheaper trust me, worked with some sonys and prices are extortionate for origional parts

Sony laptops have the expensive LCD repairing as they have different and better quality than most of laptop manufacturers
