Vista is definitely has a hunger for memory, running 64 bit Ultimate on 4 Gb of RAM and am using 1.84 Gb of the physical RAM available. On the plus side it is very stable but have seen BSOD twice already, but was being pushed to the limit at the time

In terms of the laptops....

The D2200 is Wireless, better chipset, and has additional features such as card reader

Yes, the price difference is due to a better processor, and the better version of Vista in the more expensive model.

However, looking at your daughters needs, you dont need to pay more for a better processor.

Dell are still shipping some models with XP rather than vista, so that makes more sense as xp wil run well on a machine with 1GB(1024MB) memory.

A vista machine, as suggested, should have at least 2GB RAM memory, also, the home basic version of Vista isnt really worth considering as it does not feature many things that are included in home premium.

So in summary, I would go for a Dell XP macine running XP if you want value for money, or if you want a vista machine you should look for somthing with more RAM (atleast 2 GB) running vista premium rather than basic.

I recently did some support work on a Celeron laptop (bought in PC World) with only 512Mb of RAM which was runing Vista. Once I installed antivirus, antispyware, firewall and the rest of the software firewall, it was using well over 700MB of RAM, without even touching the keyboard.

I advised the used to add at least 1 extra GB of memory, but the laptop is still running so slow that it reminds me of when I was rolling P2 machines, many years ago.

We don't use Vista in the IT department where I work and most of my collegues have downgraded their laptops to run XP_Pro, as it is at lest 4 times faster to run.

Question What's the difference, beside the price- please help IT illeterate!

Guys, I know a lot of stuff, but my small feeble female brain cannot comprehend the difference between this:
Notino W5700P-2250
and this:
Notino D2200_01
Gotta buy for teenage daughters, not hoping for a gamer machine but they do chat and store a lot of music.
Why the difference in prices- answers in "idiot-proof" language, please.
Many thanks!

The difference is due to the smaller screen size. Small screen size laptops are always more expensive.

I think the majority of the price difference has to with the version of Vista, (ie Vista Home Basic and Vista Home premium.)

Thank you very much guys!
I think the processor speed, the weight and the vista package are responsible for the £200 difference!

Do you know- I was just thinking the same. I a going to ask them if they can do that and reduce the price. I somehow don't trust Vista yet.
