Default GE Money/PPI

HI
Had a letter today from GE Money regarding ppi mis-selling, they have basically said that they did not mis sell as it was optional (even though the shop girl said sigh where I put the crosses, thats my word only even though no employment details were taken) and I have had plenty of time to cancel when I received my policy and terms and conditions (I never received a policy or T & C) I only really knew what it was last year when it was in the newspapers, they sent me a copy of my shop application (again) front page only and a copy of T & C that apparently go with policy, but no copy of my policy (agreement says you will receive a copy of your certificate of insurance).
They then go on to say I have to prove that I was a carer when I opened account. Here my problem now I have a different surname to my account, I kept my name on bank details, credit cards (coz my husband and I kept or finances separate and was told I could do that if I wanted to) but with DWP I changed it to my married name(had to for tax credits) and they will only supply details in my name now and will not comfirm my first surname only that I received carers allowance but will not provide details for a credit card company.
BTW Ive only been married 11 months.

Sorry for long post and I hope its sound clear but I really dont know what to do now. Anyone got any ideas

Hello Caz,

You don't have to prove anything, they mis-sold the policy so they have to prove that they did not under the misreprentation act.

Now regarding evidence that your received a carers allowance, get them to give you a letter in your maiden name and then send it to ge with a copy of your marriage certificate

There are a few caggers after ge for mis-selling, some have been paid out and somebody has just won their case in court.

I would be reporting them to the Office of Fair Trading and the Financial Service Authority. They won't do anything for you, but they will get another black mark against their name and if they get enough black marks they will receive a big fine

Thanks Hellhasnofury
Just been on phone to Carers allowance again and lady I spoke to was very nice she said I could have a letter in my old surname no problem stating that I was in receipt of Carers allowance when I was paying ppi (been on carers since 1994 apparently, no wonder Im stressed and tired lol).
Being charged on catalogue 'account cover'. Is that the same as ppi?

Glad you are getting a letter from carers allowance, send it with a photcopy of your marriage certificate to confirm the different surname.

Now as regard the catalogue 'account cover' its ppi in a different guise

Its not littlewoods by any chance

My ammunition from DWP re Carers Allowance letter has finally arrived. (after a reminder phone call)

I am going to wait until their reply for second letter on mis selling (probably say they didnt) then hit them with the offical proof that I was not working (well not employed -being full timer carer I never stop working on call 24/7).

They owe me almost £1000.

Hi.

Could use some advice on my next move, please.

Sent GE Money The Carers Allowance letter on 22/03/08 that was the evidence they said they wanted, but have heard nothing back from them.

What do I do now?
Also they say they dont have any statements for 2000 - 2002, do I estimate PPi payments there? I know there was an outstanding balance (there always has been).
