Default Parking Ticket - Wrong Registration Number!

I received a parking ticket on Saturday (my error, it used to be free for 30 mins and recently changed to pay & display but I didn't spot the sign!). However, the registration number entered onto the ticket (hand written) is incorrect (a 3 instead of a C). Can I appeal? Should I ignore the ticket? Or is it tough luck on me? The fine is a whopping £100 (£60 within 14 days) and issued by a private company in Exeter.

I would read the sticky thread at the start of the parking forum which will tell you all you need to know about private parking as a starter. I wouldn't bother to write to the parking company either. Let them contact you, which will be difficult, given that they have written the wrong registration number down. They will ultimately contact DVLA for your details, but with the wrong index they will not be able to get your contact details.

Thanks Rob - I read the sticky but wasn't sure if it applied to incorrect reg numbers. And of course, if they haven't got the correct reg, they can't find me Thank you!

If on the off chance that they do find you and write to you claiming their loot, all you need to do is write something along these lines:-

"Dear Sir or Madam,

I note you have sent me an invoice for parking at the xxxxx car park on the xx/xx/2007. Please note that whilst I am the registered keeper of the vehicle concerned I am not responsible for payment of your invoice. Should you wish to pursue this matter, I would advise you to take it up with the driver of the vehicle.

Yours sincerely

etc etc "

But don't write this unless they do end up finding you

Yes, would be a bit silly to write to them and give them my info!

You're correct about the reg number. Even a council PCN/FPN would be invalid if the registration number is marked down wrong.

This would be classed as an incorrectly issued notice.

You are not the owner of the vehicle on the PCN so you can ignore it. Keep the ticket as evidence incase they work out the mistake and send you a notice to owner. The ticket will not stand up in any kind of appeal or court case as it is incorrect.
