Hey,
Whats your local police force? Greater Manchester? If so, write to the Chief Constable of your force, ive written a little outline below.
Chief Constable *** ********,
Police Headquarters,
244 Bla Bla Street,
Greater Manchester.
MC234 1AB.
Dear Mr/Mrs ********
FPN Number: ************** Issued On:****************
I am writing to you, as the Chief Officer of the force in which the above FPN was issued to me.
I'm very concerned that the FPN was unfairly issued, I'll outline the circumstances below.
A friend and I were attending a wedding at the time the FPN was issued. My friend is Disabled and in a wheelchair, and if you require, we can provide medical evidence of his condition.
We tryed to remove the wheelchair from the back of the vehicle but we were unable to do so due to lack of room, so we moved the vehicle forward to make more room, a local Traffic Warden/Parking Attendent (delete either as applicable) spotted that we were slightly inside the bay to the front.
He told us that as along as we put the vehicle backwards afterwards then he would turn a blind eye, so we positioned the vehicle back and then realised we'd have trouble getting the wheelchair back inside in this position still.
So for ease and simplicity, we turned the vehicle around to make it easier to get the wheelchair in the back.
When we came back, a Police Officer was issuing us a FPN for parking the wrong way around in a one way street, which to be honest, I didnt even realise was an offence.
We explained the situation but the officer refused to accept our side.
We are very saddened by your the way your force makes no exclusions for driver with disabilities, not only does the disability cause my friend excess stress on its own, but the added FPN on top, for purely parking the wrong way round, has caused my friend high levels of stress.
He feels guility that I, as his friend, am having to pay a FPN for helping him with access to transport.
I understand your officers have a job to do and do not wish to obstruct them, but in this instance, I feel the Officer was over zealous with the FPN.
I gratefully request that you cancel the above FPN, as I'm sure that the needs of people with disablities takes paramount over the enforcement and issuing of FPN's.
I gratefully request a reply within 14 days.
Yours Faithfully
