Default Speeding advice required

I found this forum while looking for some help - looks really good so far.

Caught speeding on Saturday doing 55 in 40. They were in a van parked on a bus stop about 500m from the 40mph sign. Thought I saw them in time but got a Notice of Intended Prosecution yesterday.
I do not think I was going that fast and there was a lot of traffic between me and them, but will ask for the photographs before I commit.

Anyway, my question is this. Is it legal for them to park in a bus stop?

Thanks in advance.

Broke (even more now)

If not, what you gonna do about it? In the Greatorex Lambeth Parking Wars Amazing Lambeth Parking Stories I would say their favoured spot for the mobile unit is illegal, but hey - why should they care? Who's to prosecute?

Illegally parked Police vehicles has been contested before and the Police do have powers to park anywhere at anytime in the detection of a crime, they use this to justify parking in places like you describe.

Sadly you will find that Yes they were within their powers to do so..

Thanks for the quick response.

The odds are always stacked against but it was worth a thought.

Just a point for note, where I live it is not a police officer who drives or operates the speed camera van but a civilian employed via a local newspaper advert, so does the police have powers to park anywhere still apply

It worth noting that the speeding cameras are not always operated by Sworn Police Officers. Usually with the Scamera partnerships they're Civilian Support Staff. There was a bit of a ruckus in my manor (Avon and Somerset) over the dangerous locations used by some of the Scamera vans in the early days (parking on DYLs etc). Sometimes worth checking who the operatives were as I believe the different rules apply to Civilian Support Staff.

It's also worth checking that any speed limit sign is correct, and that the proper traffic management order is in place.
