Default Cloned Number Plate

Hi All,

Been a member for a while but this is my first post.

I have over the last week recieved two Notice of Procecutions for Speeding from Lanashire and Manchester Police. I was also contacted by Essex police on Saturday for my car driving away from a Petrol Station on Friday 21st March at night without paying. I have a Crime ref number from Essex police for this inccident and they said they would add a note to the file as to a possible cloned plate.

I recieved Photgraphic evidence from Manchester police and although it looks idendical to my car It has different stickers in the rear screen and can just make out a GPS aerial instead of my standard one.

I therefore went to my local Metropolitan Police Station on Saturday 22nd March and was advised that they could not take any details or record a crime as no crime has been made in the area. The officer went on to advise me that they could also not record it as they have no proof of me not actually commiting the offences.
They advised me to contact the DVLA to let them know my number plate MAY have been cloned.

You can only contact the DVLA by post or fax on this matter and I am in a process of putting a letter together for them.

I also need to write a letter to the issuing Police forces with regards to me not being in that area at the time of the offence and suspected cloned plate.

Any advice on where to go from here or what to put in the letters would be of great help.

Thanks in advance

David

ithink you have the right idea.
i would simply just write a letter, explaining that your number plate has obviously been cloned, send it to all parties [the police forces & the DVLA] and include the fact that you have cc'ed the letter to the various agencies, so they each know what is going on and who has been contacted.

it may well be to your benefit that you live in a metro area, as most have the ANPR system running on local CCTV/traffic cameras, i would perhaps request if there is evidence to such.

there is some very good info here:

Does anyone have experience of prosecutions for cloning? I saw a TV programme the other week and the driver who had 'mistakenly' been driving with a number plate with one digit wrong and consequently been avoiding fines etc only got a £30 fpn which I thought was incredible! Surely with so much cctv parking and speeding fines now being done the penalty for an illegal plate should be at least more than a few £'s?
