Unhappy Civil Enforcement Limited - Car Parking Fine

Hello all,

I am a first timer to the this website and only discovered it about 15 minutes ago! My fiance recieved a surprise parking fine although his car was stationary at a BP petrol station. The fine is £50 if he pays it right away - after 2 weeks he will have to pay £100. The fine is poorly worded and looks like it has been photocopied and is from a firm called Civil Enforcement Limited. We didnt trust these people and when I typed their name into Google - the Consumer Forums website came up. I have read quite a few conversations where other people are unhappy about receiving similar parking fines from the same firm. Thank goodness I found you.

Can anyone please give me some wording which I can put in a letter to make these people go away? My fiance does not recall seeing any signs and does not feel that he should have to pay a fine as he was with his car at the petrol station and to his knowledge has not broken any parking laws.

Cheers.

He has not broken any laws at all - it's a private ticket and you don't need to pay it. Read the sticky at the top of the forum.

To GG,

There are a number of threads about CEL & Gatwick [see related topics at the bottom of the forum page]

You are definately not on your own. Hundreds of people have been caught out by this scam.

To concur with Demon_X, you have not received anything official, its just an invoice, a decidedly dodgy one at that!

Read the "sticky" - section at the top of the forum "Private Parking Companies - all you need to know"

There are some suggested template letters - again attached to the top of the forum, before the individual topics.

Unfortunately there is no magic bullet that makes these scammers go away. They will keep on with their empty threats until they realise that you will not be intimidated. They play the numbers game. Even if only a small percentage pay up, the "business" is still profitable for them.

Stand firm!

Welcome to the site.
I have merged your original thread in welcome with this one.
As Demon says you will find all the info here.
Just ignore the demands.(I mean you are not legally obliged to pay it )
Its possible they will apply to the DVLC for your contact details but this is something they sometimes do.
Get the letter out to them if it makes you feel better, but insofar as legal action or forced collection go then theres nothing they can do to make you pay this.

Ta. Knowing that others are in similar position really makes me feel better. These people are like parasites. I have looked at the templates and they are all pretty fab. Only thing is.... i dont know which one i could use to make them go away. Dont realy want to ignore their letter in case we ended up being forced to pay the higher fine of 100 pounds instead. I have sent note to Bernie also asking for more advise. Sorry if i seem dim first time to the site and not sure what to do!

They can't 'force' you to pay anything - they'll have to take you to the Small Claims Court and prove it just like everybody else. You can either ignore them until they come up with some justification for this penalty (ha, and we all know where that'll get 'em), or send them the letter stating that they need to take up the matter with the driver.
