Default Incorrect VRM on my PCN

Hello to all

I received a PCN on Saturday in East London and the ticket was a fair cop as I was on double yellows.

Took the PCN home looked at it in detail, the ticket is standard stuff however.................

There recorded VRM is not correct, it does not match my car, at the top of the document it sets out the VRM and in the payment slip section at the base the VRM is again incorrect ( as in the same mistake at both the top and bottom of the document)

So do I have to pay, I have been given conflicting advice and then been pointed to this site, and you guys seen to be the experts.

The model of the car on the PCN is correct.

I could phone up the borough concerned (Newham) and state that they have made a mistake but I feel this is pretty much admitting the offence and pointing out their error.

I understand that if the PCN is incorrect ( and the VRM seems a biggy error wise) then I do not need to pay??

thanks in advance

Phil

The PCN has been issued for the vehicle on the PCN if that is not yours then you have had a lucky escape. The Council are not legally entitled to change the details after it has been issued and you have left the scene, I'd keep the PCN as evidence just in case by some miracle you get any further correspondance.

The local authority will contact DVLA to get details of the keeper of the vehicle with the VRM that they have. It will either be an invalid VRM or some unlucky person will receive an NTO for their vehicle and they will have the evidential burden of proving that the PCN was not issued in respect of their vehicle.
Either way I reckon you will hear nothing further but holding on to the PCN is good advice.
