Default PCN today, wrong number plate.

Received a ticket today...

However the dumb attendant was in such a hurry to write it out before moving the car he got the wrong plate, one letter is wrong. The ticket also says "Date of Notice:" Is this wording allowed?

Can this still stand? And does him having photographs of the vehicle make any difference?

Thanks for your advice...

Photographs in this case are irrelevant.

Its what he wrote that is.

Infact did he take pictures?

Which Local Council ?

Type of Contravention?

It might be a good idea to scan ticket so we can have a look, Your number plate is in correct anyway, but you may if you wish STRIKE A LINE THRU THE VRM.

I beg to differ, unless the PCN has your reg. no. on it it is nothing to do with you. Ignore the PCN but keep the hard copy you have incase the Council try to chase you up. If you do not pay it the Council will send the incorrect VRM to the DVLA to obtain the keepers details which will come back as unknown or the wrong vehicle depending on the error.

I would write a letter to them stating that as far as you can remember your vehicle was not illegally parked on this date and time and place as this vehicle registration on the ticket is not yours no need to give them your index. To assist your case you request a copy of the photograph's taken at the time etc.

This way your denying the offence by saying that you cannot recall and asking them to prove that it was your vehicle and should be able to get a copy of the photograph to see if it shows your true index etc and if this photograph shows a date and or time on it. Also ask for copies of any original notes belonging to the warden made at the time.

It is better this way rather than not doing anything about the ticket.

If the index is wrong then they should not pursue it any further and the ticket should be voided. If not and they issue summons then you can produce this letter saying that the index is wrong you can't recall if it was your vehicle and that you acted openly and honestly by asking for any other evidence that supports your or the councils case.

See what this brings

I can just see the letter now!.....

Dear Council
I was parked in Redhill on 27 of October in a vehicle which I do not want to tell you the VRM of but just in case I was parked in contravention can you send me any photos you took of my car.

You are totally missing the point the Council cannot pursue this ticket since it has not been issued to a vehicle owned by the OP. Why even waste a stamp writing to the council, in doing so admit you were there and in addition alert them to their error? They have no way of contacting the OP unless they realise the error and fabricate evidence based on a photo of the VRM in which case you can produce the PCN but until then just sit tight.

I'm with Ggreen_and_mean.

Say nowt; do nowt.

They cannot pursue for this PCN; they cannot issue a new one; any NtO they issue from the photograph is not for any PCN that you have been given.

Do not contact them and risk giving away your advantage.

Should the ticket also state that the amount payable is due in 28 days from such and such date.

I know its not really relevant due to the wrong VRM, but thought I would point it out anyhow.

Hi
My husband received a PCN last week (7 days ago) and the VRM is incorrect (one digit is wrong). However the Local Authority have taken photographs which show the correct VRM. Am I right then in assuming (going by what's been posted in this thread) that he can ignore the PCN and if he receives a NTO at a later date (off the back of the photographs they took) we can contest by saying that the PCN he received does not correlate to the NTO/photos?
Thanks in advance!

Completely ignore the ticket. It is void/ invalid/ nada...

Thank you Zedox. I take it you have personal experience of exactly this situation (looking at the thread you had a similar query a while back)?

Thanks, think we are going to ignore also and see what happens. Do you know if they can apply other charges if they pursue and are by chance successful in making him pay the fine? By 'other charges' I mean interest or costs associated with pursuit of it?

someone correct me if im wrong but my understanding is that if the ticket is incorrect then it is effectively void and thus obsolete. They can't persue it as theoretically it didn't happen!
