Default NCP Parking charge but have a ticket

Hi

I returned to my car today at the railway station to find a parking charge notice attached to my car for 'Parked in a pay & display car park without clearly displaying a valid pay & display ticket'
I do have a monthly ticket but had forgot to put it on the dashboard when getting out of my car this morning.
The parking charge is £50 reduced to £25 if paid within 14 days.
As I have a ticket (and receipt) is it worth me contesting the charge a) in full or b) that the charge is excessive compared with the actual loss (none in this case because I have a ticket) or c) not at all.

Regards

Railway car parks have different rules to ordinary ones, so claims about excessive losses etc won't work (Railway bye laws apply).

If you have a monthly season, why not try phoning them and offering to send proof in the form of a photocopy of the season ticket. They may be willing to waive the charge as a one off occasion. If they decline, get in touch with the Train Operating Company that runs the station and do it as a complaint.

Hi

Thanks for that.
When I looked today at the station, there is no mention of any penalty charges on the board only a price list for parking. There is also no diktat that says a ticket must be displayed (common sense i know but...) and where it must be displayed.
The NCP have only just taken over responsibility for administering the parking charges from the Railway company on monday.

It could be either a private ticket or issued under byelaws. It should say on the ticket if it's issued under byelaws.

Unless the season ticket has your VRM on it they may take the stance that it may have been used in another vehicle on the day and proof you bought one is meaningless without displaying it. I made the same mistake by forgetting my oyster card on the train a few weeks ago and got a penalty fare despite having the receipt in my wallet because as the guard explained anyone else on the train could have been using it since it has no photo on it.

as well as the ticket, i also have the credit card receipt which matches the time bought and cost, it is unlikely that I would have a card and a credit card receipt for the same period. The ticket also has my photo card number on it which is particular to me as well.

Smile Re: NCP Parking charge but have a ticket

Final Update

Last week I heard from NCP who said that having considered my appeal that they would cancel the ticket.

Success!

My appeal consisted of sending them a photocopy of my valid ticket together with a photocopy of the credit card receipt and my railway photocard.
I also mentioned that there is no mention on the signage about needing to display a ticket is an offence.
Interestingly enough, now it is possible to renew a ticket by text message and the signage explicitly says that there is no need to display a ticket!
