Default DFS (Dodgy Furniture Store)

Hi - We purchased a 6/7 seater leather corner unit and 2 armchairs from DFS which was delivered in December 07. After a couple of weeks I noticed that the chairs were losing their firmness which I was told would happen a little and I expected this. However as time goes on they are getting worse and also one section of the corner unit - the other seats are softish but are not used that much tbh. The leather is creasing as it is loose now on the cushions. I also noticed that where one part is joined to the corner this seat makes u feel like you are leaning over and also on the end of the unit as well. Also the connecting rods were broken

Put a call into DFS and they duly came out - showed him the faults and the fact we could not get the unit apart. He said these units are not made to come apart - how do you clean under them then I said - u are not supposed to - lovely try telling a pup not to push her toys under the sofa then lol. With regards to the leaning over this is because the framework is woven webbing rather than springs - he then demonstrated how firm the pouffe is as against the sofas as the pouffee is in effect made similar to a spring base. We said well no-one told us it was a woven base, surely sales people should know this information - no he said they are not required to know this. Told him how uncomfortable the suite was and he said nothing they could do - he wanted to see the paperwork as it will say on there that we were told about the suite going soft. Couldnt remember being told - it was all rushed thru with 2 people there the salesman and a woman doing the finance paperwork (which she did wrong - assumed we were on the one year free and 3 yrs interest free - was gobsmacked when the first payment came out of the bank in January - one month after delivery - called them up and they said we never asked for that deal - had just assumed thats what they were doing to people be careful of this when you go for a suite make sure you tell them - bloody crafty if u ask me but hey ho) anyway got the paperwork and there it was written by the salesman in illegible writing (the guy had a job reading it) that we had been advised the suite would soften.

So was just wondering should I fight them - as far as I am concerned the sooner I can afford to buy another suite the better and it certainly wont be from the Dodgy Furniture Store.

Default Re: DFS (Dodgy Furniture Store)

I had a similar problem with DFS, at the corner it was collapsing, additionally feathers were coming out due a lining not been installed to prevent such.

After a few visits from DFS technicians to my house with conflicting advice regarding the faults, I had enough.

I told them I required a refund.

After I threatened to dump the sofa in the entrance to the store on a bank holiday, they then agreed to a replacement (which has been fine).

As you point out you need to watch the finance agreements, I did a year interest free etc. and they attempted in the shop to get me to sign up to some payment protection nonsense for 8%.

You must fight if you consider you are correct, ultimately only you can decide that.
