Default Dentistry abroad....

Hi everyone,

I wasn't sure which forum to open this thread in so I've chosen this one as it's the closest to the subject !

I've just come back from a visit at my dentists and was due to have a crown fitted. Since taking the impressions, the filling fell out and when I returned yesterday I was told my tooth had changed shape. Because of this, the crown will no longer fit and another one can't be out in either. The only option is a bridge (as i've already head the tooth out next to it). This is all well and good but seen as the crown, which I still have to pay for is £280 and the bridge is going to be around £1100 ! I'm obviously unable to do this.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, i've been trawling the web and am now looking into having my treatment done abroad. If anyone has had experience of this, it would be great to hear from you.

Kind Regards

Katie

I dont know the ins and outs of treatment abroad, but obviously, theres an element of risk involved. Where were you thinking?
I wouldnt have thought you'd have to pay for the crown as well as the bridge, as you havent had it fitted.
Unfortunately, £1k is about right for a bridge.
If the tooth has 'changed shape' though, why can your dentist not simplt re-take the impression?
Id ask him/her this. Id also consider requesting that he refer you to a consultant at a dental hospital. It cant hurt to get a second opinion.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I was looking at Hungary or Poland. I've got some info sent to me and it looks ok and theres also email addresses of British people who have had treatment done there. So it may be worth getting in touch with them and seeing what the crack is.

My dentist did say they will offset the crown fee against the bridge but it's still going to cost around £700. If I don;t have the bridge I will have to pay fot the crown.

Thanks

Katie

I know someone who went to Goa and had about £3,500 worth of treatment for less than £400. Plus, what a lovely holiday at the same time!!!

I know someone who had his teeth done in Poland therefore decided to go there as well. Porcelain bridge he had done looks so brilliant - undistinguishable from his own teeth. I think it's a good idea but only when we can rely on proven testimonials. If I did't hear from my friend I would't decide to go. Some other clinics told me to visit their web sites for testimonials but how can I trust they are real?

FWIW

i have a polish colleague and he has just flown home to have his dental work done.

Something i was thining about doing because i have aprobken tooth that needs some work.

I did have some work done in dubai but basically its the same price as here if you go to what one might call a western dentist which i did.

I suspect that there are asian dentists catering for the asian migrant workers who would charges a lot less. Mind you the facilities would probably reflect the costs.

I defnitely think its worth lookng into.

I have details of a Dentist in Hungary, i can post later
The initial consult and x rays are free.
They can even arrange hotels and flights if necessary.
Dont know where you are in the country but Easyjet fly there and if youre lucky you can get a return for £50 (cheaper than a private consult over here and you get a day out in Hungary as well)
I got a quote for some work from them and compared to the UK its amazing.
I am seriously considering it, as i could never afford to get the work done here

Heres the Link [Edit]

Looks interesting but a bit more expensive than the clinic I'm going to visit. Have you personally been there or just sharing experience after visting their web site or simply advertise?

Hi lordvader,

I've had treatment in Hungary. Extremely good and managed to save me and my husband a small fortune. Their seems to be a lot on offer, their certainly was when we started looking into it, it took us quite a while to decide simply because of the choice.
Anyway I would recommend it, the treatment we received was very good and like I said we saved a lot of money.
We went with Kreativ Dental - Their website for UK patients is [Edit]
We did have a few problems at the beginning with their old UK rep Ian somebody (could never get hold of him) but they have installed new UK reps and I must say their service was fisrt class.

Hope you have the same success as we did. Budapest is an amazing city... I recommend visiting the Szechenyi Baths.

I had my treatment done in Poland and it was much more easier than I thought. Arrived Berlin airport and a driver took me to Szczecin in Poland where I met dr. Wiklinski. The service was excellent and I saved a lot of money. The quote from my English dentist for a root treatment was 400 pounds and I paid 60 pounds for same in Poland. I had also 6 crowns fitted and it was 50% cheaper than in UK (it could be even cheaper but I got cyrconium crowns which are the best quality available). I can higly recommend my new dentist in Poland. You can contact him at (EDIT)

This is my first post and i am not too sure of how much information is allowed. I went to Budapest through a dental agency to have a top arch of new crowns. The outcome was an emotional and financial nightmare. I was given a one piece bridge of 14 crowns ,attached at one end to an existing implant. The bridge which had been cemented broke off taking several teeth ,which are still in the bridge. The rest beyond repair. The result of this was to have all my top teeth removed ,and now have a denture. The cost of original treatment being £3000. The agency says that as i did not return to the same dentist to have my teeth removed the guarantee fails. I am hoping to get some compensation for this to continue treatment.
So my message is to check everything about the Agency and the Dentists they recommend. The names involved are available if allowed.

I feel that as i have been treated so badly by the Dental Agency and the Dentist refered to in my previous post i should name them to inform other people who may be searching for Dentistry. I would not wish anybody to experience the loss of their teeth as i have, it is too serious to ignore
The Dental Agency is Vital Europe also referred to as Vitalpoint, and the Dentist was Profident in Budapest.
Vital Europe claim to check every part of your treatment and guarantee the results..My result is a loss of teeth and money and confidence ,as i now wear a denture.
Feeling depressed has stopped me from claiming compensation for the moment only.

My husband went to see a dentist in Goa whilst on holiday for a bridge to be made. Excellent dentist and extremely cheap compared to prices in our country. Also any medicines or prescription glass, I would recommend as you can take a prescription out to Goa and they will complete it for you. Not to forget a really good holdiay, as everything is very cheap out there and the people can't do enough to help you.

Hey Katie,

If you're interested in getting to Poland, I can tell you a bit about it from personal perspective.
The clinic I decided to have my teeth done was just great. They organized my stay in Gdansk in such a way that I didn't have to worry about a thing ! They picked me up from the airport for free, I had a hotel close to the clinic, they arranged taxi vouchers in case I wanted to travel around the city. I was given travel & entertainment package information prior to getting to Poland, so I knew what is really worth seeing in the region.

All in all, a totally great experience and the costs were amazingly low considering the high standard of service. You'd be able to get a 3 point (unit) bridge - porcelain on metal - for around 500 pounds. Don't want to advertise here, you know , so if you are interested, drop me a line.

Cheers,

Daniele

It's worth bearing in mind, that no matter how much cheaper your dentistry would be abroad, you would not necessarily be covered by health insurance policies taken out in the UK.

Should anything go wrong you would probably need to speak to a company like holiday claims.

I used them when a dentist in Spain removed my 8 year old daughter's tooth when it was deemed unnecessary by a British dentist. Not your average holiday complaint I know, but it just adds another perspective on your situation...

Good luck
