Default NHS Over Payment

I have worked for the NHS for over 14 years. I had been waiting for back since October 2004, to my delight I received my back of £1540 Gross in April 2008. My backpay should have been about £500 per year, so I truely believed that the amount I recived was correct and duly desposit of it. In June this year I was told that I had been over paid by £1504 Gross and could I pay it back. I then went through this overpayment with our Deputy Director of Finance who said the over payment was in fact £1134 Gross. It was then decided to put this back through payrol again, this time the overpayment came back at £938.07 Now it has taken until September for payrol to admit that they have made a number of mistakes. At the end of September I was told that if I do not agree to a £30 per month deduction from my wages that the whole payroll was put on hold and that they may decide to pass this overpayment to a debit collection agency. I felt I had no choice but to agree with deduction. I have since then estopped payroll from deducting any further payments and have put in a greivence for the way I had been treated. I had a meeting with my divisonal manager who told me I had to agree to £30.00 deduction until the overpayment was paid off (April 2011) or lose my increments payments for the next two years and continue to pay if off until (March 2010). I cannot affort to pay either of these two amounts and have offered £10 which I was told would take over 7 years. Management have now told me they have stopped my increment payment for October pay. Are they allowed to do this? Can I insist that I pay only £10 ? Any help would be great. Many thanks

hi

If you were expecting back pay of about £500 per year how have they justified the overpayment and have they actually paid the back pay?

Was this from Agenda for change? Is this for four years back pay? I would say this was quite a reasonable amount to expect back for 4 years, one of our HCA's got £5k backpay. Is your banding right? Have you asked them what your backpay should have been over the 4 years?
