Default nat west robbery

I need advice as to whether to close my Nat west account or leave it open due to the fact they have charged me around £200 for going overdrawn by £2.48 last month.

They failed to send me any kind of notification of the amount overdrawn!

I paid in £140 at their request, this month. They have taken all but £3 of this, and say they will be taking another 2 lots of £28 (one in June and one in July). Do I close the account before they do so, or would that be unwise?

HELP thanks for any help you may offer
I went into Nat West today to close my account -they have taken all the £140 I deposited last week (one fee for £60 was a 'referral fee - whatever that may be!!)I Went it to ask what it was, and I also said I wanted to close my account with them -I am at present £3 in credit. They refused to close my account said they wont because more fees (I call them fines) are forthcoming. Can they legally refuse to close my account please? Does anyone know?

Closing the account is not a necessity. If you want to take action to reclaim your bank charges - why on earth not - then I advise you to open a parachute account in case.

Try calling in at your branch to discuss the bank's unreasonableness with your manager. Then start the step by step procedure if that doesn't work.

Good luck.

Question Re: nat west robbery

Where do I send the first Nat West Letter please? (If its Head Office, does anyone know the address?) Or is it to my local branch or both? Cheers

There's a sticky thread at the top of the NatWest forum that has details of addresses. I would personally send the first letter to your local branch, then respond to any address shown on their responses to you.

My advice to you is that you go through the Customer Relations unit because you will eventually be dealing with them anyway.

Unhappy Re: nat west robbery

Thank you for your advice to go through Nat West customer service first. I read a posting saying go to top man at RBS & NAT WEST - Sir Fred Goodwin chairman. Would he be a better option (though there is only a telephone number) or would he be better left til later please? I am 62 and not so good finding my way around either computer networks or this vast Nat West jungle. Never had overdrawn penalties in my life before, so am confused but determined to fight them!!

bellahem,

I don't think there's anything to be gained from writing to Sir Fred - ultimately, you'll get the same response but it may take a bit longer.

Given the chances are NatWest will, in the first instance, decline you request, the sooner they do so the better then, at least, you'll be able to move to the next stage - and the sooner you do that, the sooner you'll get your chances back.

Good luck!

Thanks for advice Fred Funk. I think I will write to Nat West, Borhemwood and for good measure, send a copy to Sir Fred.

Have just phoned the tel number wilipwoy (see wilipway posting 23 March 2006), suggested for Sir Fred Goodwin namely 0131523 2033, and was given another Head Office address (they suggested marking it for his attention).

In case its any use to anyone else, it is: Sir Fred Goodwin Chairman & CEO of the RBS Group, (including) Nat West, GOGARBURN, Edinburgh EH 12 IHQ.

Gogarburn is the band spankingly new Head Office of the Royal Bank of Scotland Group which owns NatWest(no longer PLC since takeover by RBS Group), opened either this year or last
