Default Mortgages One recorded incorrect info on us with Equifax

Hi, would be grateful for any advice you can offer.

I have today received both mine and my husband's standard credit reports from Equifax. The reason I checked our credit files is that I was turned down for something and couldn't understand why that was.

Some time ago we had a problem with Mortgages plc as we had a mortgage from them (the money was actually with our solicitor) but for many reasons we pulled out of the purchase. We were at that point renting the flat we were intending to buy and moved out of there soon after the purchase fell through.
We found out months after that Mortgages One had been sending us letters telling us we were behind in our mortgage payments and it took 4 letters and many calls to get it rectified. They gave us £100 as a gesture and promised to wipe any info from our credit history.

On the letter we've had today they're listed for both me and my husband with a status of "S4" — I spoke to Equifax who tell me that this means that the account was "4 months in arrears and then closed/satisfied"!
Now, surely that can't be good! Even worse when we never had an active account with them in the first place.

In the first instance should I contact Mortgages One? And how would I go about getting this removed?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi
I am no expert my reply is to BUMP your thread, however I think you are entitled to request that Mortgages One remove the offending information.
You may have to threaten and follow through with legal action, this will require advice from someone with expertise in this field.

Regards

Andy
