Barclays expecting to much Because of problems with 1 missed mortgage and one "lost" cash payment, and arrears on the Openplan borrowing due to a mis understanding betweeen me and Payplan, I am in arrears and overdrawn on the mortgage current account.
Here I am owing nearly £800, I have agreed terms to pay the arrears on the mortgage at £19 a month (this money is coming out of what I should have left from Payplan and my other bills - ie £20 less food each month. It will take me until July 2010, to clear the arrears. I am now making regular payments to the mortgage current account, as that needs to be clear come 12 years time.
What annoyed me was this letter was received on 4 July and Barclays want all the payments on 9 July. I rushed to my current bank with an ameded S/O mandate for the mortgage on Saturday to be told they can't do a standing order in less than 3 working days. The assistant branch manager tells me all banks know this.
Now I know I can make a card payment for the mortgage account, by ringing the 0870 number of the mortgage centre, but I can't make a payment to the Openplan borrowing, without physically going into the branch with money. Also I don't really want other people at work to here be call them up.
What I want to know is - are Barclays justified in demanding the extra payment by 9 July, even though this is the date the normal mortgage goes out? Surely they would know that it is near impossible to get this done.
Why say they are making a £40 charge each month because the mortgage is more than 1 months in arrears, yet it is only 2 mths in arrears from 1st to 9th each month and then it is under 1 mth in arrears fro the remainder of the month as i have been over paying by a few pence each month. Could this be why I haven't seen any evidence they have added this amount to the arrears notification, or is this being added somewhere else? |
