First Direct Mortage & letter of consent

Hi everyone,

This is my first post on this tread, I am seeking advice regarding a series of phone calls i have had today with first direct.

I am 10 weeks into a remortgage application which should of completed earleir this month, however today I have had another delay, they want a "letter of consent" from each of my children who live at home and are over 18 yours old, they claim this is required should I default on payments and the house is repossessed, otherwise the children have a right to stay n the house or could cause them problems in them selling the house, Ive never heard of this before, any thoughts anyone ?

Hi there, it's quite common for mortgage companies to ask for this. My friend had to get her son to go to a solicitor and have the form of consent signed by them (solicitors charge for this). Have they sent you forms for each of your children over 18?

Thanks for your quick reply, they ae sending it out in the post today, no mention of any. fees therefore assuming there isnt any. Interesting to hear thats its common practice, ive changed my lender on average every two years and never come across this before.

You will probably need to get them witnessed by a local solicitor, it's they who will charge a fee,

It will be intersting if fees are involved, to cut a long story short Ive had just about enough of First Direct, by there own admission they have now fouled up twice,if fees are involved and they dont pay for them i will cancel the mortgage altogether and also close/move my bank/savings accounts to another banks, I always vote with both feet
