  1. Hi Martin, I have used the entitled to benefits calculator as I was told this would be most accurate and gives the option to calculate for the 16/17 tax year. It seems I will be better off cancelling my childcare vouchers as my housing benefit and child tax will increase, but this is assuming I won't be affected by the family element of the housing benefit being abolished from 1st May. I guess what I really need to know, is if I put my new claim through in April, will I avoid the abolishment of the family element in housing benefit? I am also wondering if I should really trust in what these calculators say and cancel my vouchers or keep them going until I have put the claims through and got confirmation on my entitlements.
  2. I have been looking into entitlements all day and I am just going round in circles. I could really do with some advice. The abolishment of the family element in housing benefit is my main worry. I don't know if it will affect me or not? I have a 2.5 year old and our second baby is due in May, and according to 'entitledto' we will be entitled to some housing benefit in 16/17. But I don't know if this will start after I have the baby, or when I go on maternity leave in April. Also, as mentioned above, I don't know whether the abolishment will affect the result I am getting. I know it only affects new claims after 1st May, so if I submit my claim in April when my maternity leave starts- will I be entitled to the family element? I am thinking I will still get it, because I already have a child and my circumstances are changing prior to 1st May. Now, it seems I will be entitled to more help (around an extra £70 a month) if I do not continue with my childcare vouchers through my employer. But I don't want to opt out of the scheme to find that the calculations were all wrong and I would have been better off with continuing with the childcare vouchers. Would it be possible to cancel the childcare vouchers once I've heard back regarding my claims? Anything else I need to consider? Thank you in advance!
  3. Do most of you know or have a good idea as to who the retailer that does not speak it's name is!? It's bugging me I'd like to know if it is who I would like it to be!
  4. I think any bad reputation these stores get is deserved, they should look into RLP properly and understand what they do before they decide to use them. They should have more respect for their customers than that.
  5. Thank you all for your advice, I have seen that it will cost me £10 to get the CCTV footage but to be quite honest I don't want to pay anything really. I'd like to just forget about the whole thing, it's their loss that they no longer have me or my family as a customer and I'm sure they'll suffer more financially from that than what they have suffered tagging the purse, and getting some loud mouthed lurch to talk cr@p to me for 10 minutes! I have read a document from the CAB regarding RLP and they suggest that apart from those people that have given in and paid after receiving threatening letters from them, all other cases have been dropped. None have gone to court. In the great majority of these reported cases, the ‘claim’ was eventually dropped (or, at least, no further letters were received from Retail Loss Prevention) after being challenged robustly by the CAB and/or the client, or after simply being ignored. I think I am going to go down the route of ignoring any letters received and will just forget about the whole experience
  6. Hello Everyone, Would like to share my hellish experience I had on Friday in TK Maxx. I am apparently what you call a fraud, with a very busy work schedule and earnings of over 1k a month. After browsing some purses in their store I came across one which I wanted to BUY. The problem I had was that there was no tag advising the price. I took the trouble of finding a similar purse and taking both to the till in hope that it would speed up the process at the till as I had an appointment to make in short time. When I got to the till I told the girl that I would like to buy the purse with no tag and asked how much it would be. She opened it up and went through all of the card pockets inside and found a tag. She said that the tag was probably the wrong one and scuttled over to her manager. After pointing and staring at me a few minutes, the girl came back to me and said 'my manager said that's fine'. She put my card payment through, gave me my receipt and I left the store. Once I got outside I was approached my a tall strange looking man with an incredibly loud voice asking me to return to the store because he believed I switched the tags. I told him I hadn't but he then loudly said infront of everyone sitting outside enjoying lunchtime coffee that it would be best I admit before he calls the police because he has it on CCTV! I didn't want this embarrassing debate to continue infront of people so I followed him into the store. Inside, I asked to see the CCTV. He tried everything possible to avoid it and tried to make me admit to something I did not do by saying that unless I deal with it in store he will call the police and it will go on my file and I may lose my job! After the treatment I got I decided I don't want to shop there anymore anyway so happily signed the banning form in a bit to get out ASAP and make my appointment. They took the purse and refunded my card. As I was leaving he handed me a peice of paper and said that I'll hear from this company but did not explain what for. He was reluctant to tell me anything so I took the bit of paper home to read and soon saw that they were going to use this third party company called RLP to claim money off you!! I was disgusted and felt sick that they made it so easy for someone innocent to take on guilt and then pay for it. I felt that this was a little scheme the staff had going between themselves in the store because I knew I hadn't done it. If I could go back in time I'd have got the police involved. I'd also put a bet on it that the purse was put back on the shelf with the same tag inside it. Makes me wonder if the security guy or TK Maxx make money out of it. Either that or they get some sort of a kick from it. I haven't received a letter yet but I didn't show any photo ID whilst in store so will they know I gave the correct name and address and didn't use someone else's card? I never proved who I am. Surely there's something I can do about this if I do receive a letter. Any advice?
