  1. An elderly neighbour has died, leaving just under £10,000 in cash in the house. (No bank account - she didn't like them!) Her family banked it, though, after her death - thinking that was the right thing to do. Now the benefit people are chasing them for extra information... I don't know how she did it, probably a war-time rationing mentality, but she managed to save the money while living on benefits. She only ever claimed what she was told she was entitled to as a widow, living on her own, with no other pensions etc. What will happen now? Did she do something wrong? I can't see why someone (or their family) should be penalised and punished for saving on a meagre income. Will some/all of the money have to be repaid?
  2. Can you? The street light outside my house has been out for two weeks, making it very dark. Two of our cars have been vandalised in that time. One car had its windscreen smashed, the other its wing mirror. This had cost more than £200 to repair so far. Can I claim this back from the council??? Thanks!
  3. A toe-rag smashed my car windscreen last night, leaving the vehicle undrivable. Not only will I lose a day's pay getting it fixed, but my insurance is charging me my full excess to process the repair. Why should I have to pay after falling victim to crime? (I have a crime number etc). Totally, totally unfair!
  4. Bean Counter... As in making money - and serving coffee beans
  5. Many thanks for all your help - I've passed the info along. I asked about the mobility clause and his contract does state that he can be asked to work at any base within the firm....however, the company is not willing to pay the £65 a day it would cost for commuting, nor stump up thousands to rent or buy a new place 200 miles away.
  6. What about JSA? Will he qualify for contribution-based JSA straight away, or will he be sanctioned for refusing a job 200 miles away?
  7. Moving is not really an option. He has kids in important exam years, partner has job here and there are also family ties. (And there are no guarantees that new post won't be made redundant early next year, when further changes are planned...) Reckon he's stuck between a rock and a hard place!
  8. I am writing on behalf of a neighbour who has just been made redundant from his firm after more than 20 years loyal service. Officially he been told that his job is transferring to a base 200 miles away. Unofficially he has found out that his job duties will be carried out by people lucky enough to be still left at the firm. Is this legal? Any information would be welcome.
  9. Nope. Not quite. The original Cahoot loans were sold with typically low interest rates which then shot up when Satan took over Abby National. You can claim back THIS unfair interest from Satan at the moment quite seperately from a ppi claim. Two loads of cash for one loan. You must, however, email the Santander CEO with your unfair interest claim. A short note with your account number and complaint about unfair interest will suffice. Your ppi claim is quite separate and will need to be made in writing.
  10. Just one SAR will suffice for both... Or all three if you want. You may find some handy charges or ppi to reclaim!
  11. The good news is that the Cahoot/Santander is just waiting to pay you out thousands.... First you need to email the CEO and claim back the excessive interest. (Probably a couple of grand) Then you need to get claiming the ppi. You need to SAR Santander to get the details. Santander are fairly quick to respond. You'll probably get the interest back within a month. Two months for ppi.
  12. If you are a member of the gym, or pay for use of facilities like the creche, then I'd kick up a stink with the manager. Might be worth a free session or two ...
  13. The recommendation to ignore PCNs relates to companies such as Parking Eye, who's letters are merely speculative requests for your money. If you receive a ticket from the council, that is a different matter. They can send in the bailiffs if you don't pay. Get writing and appeal this ticket.
