  1. We should all be lobbying for no cuts to anyone, fair pensions for all and work that pays better than benefits. The government has us exactly where they want us, fighting about who deserves more misery than them. This is not a dig at anyone on this thread, just a reflection on the divide and rule tactics going blatantly unchallenged.
  2. It was said to us, again at the meeting, that ATOS are paid per person declared fit for work regardless if that person were to be subsequently declared unfit for work. Some of us have already taken to the streets in march and june. If you are not unionized, then find local or national campaigns to support. Our greatest enemy is our apathy. Our greatest weapon is our refusal. We won't get another chance.
  3. I was at a meeting last night to discuss combating Welfare Reform. I have to admit my naivete around ATOS but on hearing they operate in 42countries around the world and have 8.7billion in assets I was amazed. This is the real face of privatization and it is only due to get worse. A wholesale dismantling of disabled persons benefits is in its 2nd reading of parliament. Time to take to the streets.
  4. I have no idea if that's the case, but from HMRCs point of view in terms of tackling fraud and error, it makes business sense regardless of perceived immorality
  5. But if these areas are high fraud areas it makes sense surely? Much like targeting particular trades known for cash in hand jobs etc.
  6. I have noticed a couple of threads recently quite damning of proposed methods of reducing tax credit fraud. Surely we can all agree the system is broken? You need only read the countless threads where tens of thousands of pounds have been lost on individual claims with no prosecution or penalty. And before we shift the focus on to tax dodgers, that's not been the subject of discussion. But what is the issue with targeting areas which are notorious with hemorrhaging cash? The credit systems were reported ages ago as a way to target couples claiming to live apart as far as I can remember.
  7. As has been mentioned, where possible, tell everyone everything.
  8. I assume it will be a system of risk scorecarding rather than any class snobbery. Damned if they do, Damned if they don't.
  9. Poor guy, doing it for all the right reasons etc etc......
  10. On The first point, its best to let all of the agencies know as soon as you can. Overpayments can occur with any delay but can be reduced by getting in contact quickly.
  11. With the greatest of respect, there is no attempt here to sort anything out. The poster wants to know what action HMRC will take now the false figure has been corrected. In answer to the original poster, tax credits will likely reduce your future public funding (tax credits) to pay it back
  12. The fact that there has been an influx of threads certainly indicates there is a crackdown underway with regards the childcare. The facility is now available to have costs checked before they are added. It appears to have been an easy way to steal public funding and HMRC must shoulder some of the blame for soft penalties and a poor system of checks. Better late than never perhaps... Facility for front line advisors to send aspects of claims to be checked is most definitely in operation. I believe we have spoken in The past regarding HMRCs public paper on plans to tackle fraud and error. The have a joint prosecution initiative with the DWP which seems to imply a greater access to informations between departments so checks do seem to be on the increase, as this forum will testify.
  13. I agree the forum is for support, but a healthy debate of opinions on what fraud is is good too. There are countless threads of people in a panic because HMRC has finally caught them, would they have volunteered the information themselves without being prompted? We will never know. However, a thread like this where opinions on fraud are discussed are worthwhile. It is a public forum and you will inevitably find viewpoints which are the polar opposite of your own however that is not cause to stop.
