  1. Was it someone in the actual Jobcentre you spoke to, or someone on the phone? If someone on the phone, the receipt number won't mean anything to them as this is part of the Jobcentre's records and not recorded anywhere else. It sounds to me like you've paid the money at the Jobcentre, and whoever took the money has failed to notify the Crisis Loan repayment section. There will however be a record in the Jobcentre itself of the money being taken from you. An antiquated paper record, but it will be there all the same in the form of the carbon copy of your receipt in a serial-numbered pad. If you haven't already done so, you need to speak to someone in the actual office where you paid the cash in - if possible, take in your copy of the receipt in person. If they refuse to help or look into it for you (and there's no reason why they shouldn't), then you need to put a complaint in writing (again to the Jobcentre itself where you actually paid in the cash), which will be passed higher up the chain so it could be looked into: a) why they are refusing to investigate b) why no record of a financial transaction has been retained at the office.   2. Hi Do you know the dates you made the payments? (roughly at least!) The jobcentre should retain the carbon copies of the receipts you were issued for 6 years (it can be traced by the number too - this should be at the jobcentre itself not the social fund office). Can you arrange an appointment at the jobcentre where you made the payments and see if they can trace it in their finance office?

  4. Hi Hoping someone can help here! We upgraded to Sky+ HD last August, and before then was a regular Sky+ customer since 2009. (Just the TV, no phone or broadband). We only went with Sky as we can't get Virgin where we live at the moment. We are now moving to an area where we CAN - and after trawling through my Sky account details online and not seeing anything regarding being in a contract, my partner has arranged for Virgin to be installed at the new address, and I called today to cancel the Sky. Only to be told I have a contract with them until August next year and apparently it was at the end of the very small print of something I was sent in the post after we received the new box last year. (Which was read out quite obnoxiously by the man on the phone so I wasn't best pleased with him!) I have not signed a contract, and did not cancel within the 8 days after installation, as we were not expecting to be moving and still wanted the service at the time. I don't remember receiving the letter, the only one I DO remember is one addressed about a week after we got the HD box offering the service cheaper for 6 months - and when I called to ask about the offer I was told it was only available to new customer (just a bit of background there as to why I don't feel guilty about wanting to change TV providers!) I asked if I could pay to end the contract early and was told no, I can't end the contract at all. My question is, if I just cancel my direct debit, what's the worst that can happen? I'm happy to send them the HD box back! If Sky are not providing me a service (which they won't be as I won't be at the address, and the man said they would block the equipment if they didn't received a payment), am I still legally obliged to pay although I have not signed any contract? Thanks in advance.
  5. Hi Jules, Everything antone and jellycubes say up there ^^^^! If you've been claiming for 6 months without a break in your claim then you should be automatically entitled to the HB/CTC run on and also the Job Grant - there's no need to claim as they should be paid automatically but there's nno harm in chasing them up as a little "reminder". Also as a lone parent, you may also be eligible for "In-Work Credit" I think it's called - you should contact your Jobcentre and ask to see a Lone Parent adviser who should be able to tell you more about this (even though you're on JSA you can still request an appointment with a specialist adviser) - you can also ask for a "better off calculation" which gives you an estimate of what you may be entitled too and how much better off you'll be each week.   7. Hi If you called your jobcentre you shouldn't have to go into specific details - maybe you could just say your boyfriend is seriously ill. It's possible to be "treated as available" under certain circumstances - this should be classed as a "domestic emergency", after all, they can happen to anyone! You should be aware that you only get two "periods of sickness" (of up to 14 days each) I think in a rolling year, so you don't want to actually be ill and end up getting your claim closed. You could try the ES90 form at the jobcentre in Norwich - they'll have to call your jobcentre in Manchester to see if they'll accept it, and then a copy should be faxed through, However this form is specifically intended if you were "Going Away From Home To Look For Work", so you may be asked for evidence of any job search in Norwich.   8. It depends what it's in regards to. The jobcentre would refund the price of a return journey by public transport if it was an interview at the Jobcentre NOT on a normal attendance day - for example if a return ticket/daysaver on the bus costs £3 you'd get the £3.
  9. I have an update on this! After not hearing anything for a while, I finally got an email from someone ELSE who works at the letting agents (not the one who originally sent the email with the false claims in!) This is the one who actually did my inspections every 3 months when I lived there so knew that I kept the place clean. Anyway, he said he didn't know where the EVIL letting agent man had stored the photos he sent me, so I emailed the pictures back and said the comments I made on each photo still stand. It's taken a few weeks - but I just got this reply...... I think that's a great result - much better than I was hoping for!
  10. I'm pretty sure it ISN'T protected. I'm having all these visions of the letting agent going round the flat with bags full of cat hair and dirt and chucking it around to get some more photos........ I'm guessing it must count in my favour that they did inspections every 3 months and no issues were ever raised? The man who did the inspections even commented on several occasions how he liked inspecting my place as it was always clean with no problems, and that you wouldn't be able to tell I even HAD cats if they didn't follow him round when he was looking in all the rooms!

I've looked EVERYWHERE and can't find the second agreement I signed, just the original one Strangely enough, the original agreement SAYS it is a 6 month agreement, but the dates on it are October 14th 2006 - MARCH 13TH 2007! That's 5 months! I replied to the email from the letting agent on Monday and commented on each of the attached photos. One photo was of the window in the upstairs spare room which was the only one not replaced by UPVC double glazing and the wooden frame was rotting - it can be seen clearly in the photo that it is the same on the OUTSIDE ledge which I had no access to as the window only opened at the top and it was an upstairs window! (The photo also shows a very clean shiny window sill!) Two of the photos were close-ups of the two different shelves in the ONE cupboard that was missed (needing nothing more than a wipe with a damp cloth). There was a photo of another windowsill - the paintwork was slightly scratched but it also shows it's clean in the photo. The other photo was the same one attached twice which I don't believe is even from my flat - I asked in the email if they can point out to me exactly WHERE it was taken! I also asked in the email if they could tell me why the oversight of ONE cupboard warrants a deep clean of the whole property, which I left in a cleaner state to how it was when I moved in. Nearly a week later and I am yet to receive a reply - would it be worth me emailing again to push them a bit? Is their silence a good thing or a bad thing? (The email I received from them with the photos said "I await your comments on these photos" - I obliged with that!)
  12. Unfortunately I can only find the original agreement and not the second one I signed - I'm still trying to work out where things are after the move! (It's not in the normal important stuff box but I'll keep looking!) I don't remember it being in the agreement though - and I'm the sort to read everything pretty thoroughly before I sign it and would remember that! Was just wondering if you had a link to the exact legislation (I couldn't find anyting on the directgov site about the date the deposit is actually PAID versus when the contract is renewed).
  13. Are you absolutely SURE? I've been looking at other threads and browsing the web and finding different answers - I'm confused! (Doesn't take much!) The thing is, I don't remember ever being notified of my deposit being held in a protection scheme, and I want to be absolutely SURE before I use this in my next email. Do you have a link to the exact legislation? Thanks!
  14. Could somebody please clarify that my deposit should be protected even though I paid it before the date that law came into force, as I signed the renewal contract AFTER 6th April 2007?
  15. Ok the first 6 month contract was from 13th October 2006 - then I had a 12 month contract from April 2007. I don't think I signed a new agreement after that.
