  1. Got a letter the other day and my contract with BT ends on 17 Sept. Thank goodness.... Think I will go with Sky. Does anyone know if their internet service is good?
  2. I am in the same situation as yourself... been a BT Broadband customer for the best past of 8 years or so and have gone from paying £16 per month to £52. This is all due to their telling me that I have gone over my usage allowance. On querying this, I too have been told that "if that's what they say, then you must have used it" and that BT have no way of actually telling me what I have done to go over my allowance. This all seems like a big con to me, but Im reluctant to leave BT as their Broadband service has always been good, i.e. no interruption to service. I did say to a customer service advisor that I was considering moving to another company and she told me i would be liable for cancellation charges, though I have not signed a contract for my broadband at all and was told on the phone 2 years ago that I was on a rolling contract.... would it be worth considering another company?
  3. She has left that area now unfortunately. Does anyone know if there is a time limit on when you can be invoiced for things after the fact?
  4. Many thanks. I think I will fire off a letter to the chief exec in the first instance and see if I get any joy.
  5. Hi everyone, hope I am posting in the right place! I would like some advice! In March 2006, my mum moved out of her two bed council house into a one bed council house. A few weeks after her move she was billed by Aberdeen City Council for £180 which they stated was for removal of carpet grips, removal of built in wardrobes and replacement of an internal door, all from the house she moved out of. I wrote to them on her behalf, stating that the built in wardrobes were already in the property when the family moved in, in 1978, and that there were carpet grips present in the new house she moved into, therefore it was not obviously standard procedure for ACC to remove carpet grips from all properties they rent out. With regard to the internal door, there was a bedroom door which was broken and my mum bought a new door and left it in the property for them to use to replace the one that was broken. Nothing has been heard from them since - no repeated requests for the original amount, which I presume means that they received our original letter. However, two days ago, she has received another invoice, now for £80, for the cost of the replacement door. She is a pensioner and is obviously upset with this. Can they invoice for something that was done nearly two years ago? Or should my mum, as a friend has advised, request reimbursment from them for the internal door she originally left as a replacement? Any thoughts and advice is most welcome.
  6. That sounds like a good idea to try - Beko's are supposedly a good brand to buy and you would expect their goods to last longer. Another thing to try is the drainage hole in your fridge. It might be blocked and you may need to clear it out.
  7. thanks! I have a funny feeling this wont be the last I hear from them:(
  8. so, should the situation arise, I should ask them for a copy of the credit agreement and something to prove they own the debt, is that correct?
  9. I bought a Beko Fridge Freezer 4 years ago and I thought mine died on me a couple of weeks ago... gurgling noises, freeze started to defrost, etc. But it came alive again and has been working fine since (fingers crossed). I know this doesn't offer you any help, but maybe a little hope!
  10. I emailed 1st Credit explaining that my hubby had never had an account of any kind with RBS. Another letter arrived today, saying it is to do with Natwest, which makes more sense if they are all now owned by the same people. Their new letter states that they have received my recent communication regarding a dispute/query in relation to this debt. They will be contacting their clients and will let us know their response in due course, which may take at least one month. Unless I am querying the full balance I MUST contact 1st Credit IMMEDIATELY to "discuss payment of the debt amount you accept is due and payable." Is this what I have read on other threads about not admitting to the debt?
  11. Thanks for that - I just wondered why the telephone number for RBS does not exist. Seemed a bit odd. I will take your advice and get hubby to write to RBS.
  12. Hello all. I am new to this and hope you can help and that I have posted this in the appropriate place! My husband received a letter today on Royal Bank of Scotland Credit Card Operations headed paper. It gave an account number and stated that they had passed unpaid credit card debt on to 1st Credit. My husband has never had any type of account with Royal Bank of Scotland and there was no outstanding balance stated. It gave an address and telephone number for further communication and I checked the number and it was 1st Credit. However, the telephone number for Royal Bank of Scotland at the top of the letterhead does not exist. This all seems a bit suspicious to me and my husband emailed enquires at 1st Credit and stated that he has never been a customer of Royal Bank of Scotland. We now await their response. Is there a possibility that 1st Credit are using this to lure my husband into telephoning them on another matter? Any advice on how to proceed with this matter? We live in Scotland by the way. Many thanks.
