  1. I am sorry but not suprised to hear about the trouble you are having with Land of Leather Ltd. If you read the threads on this site about Land of Leather you will notice a theme which is no doubt unwritten company policy for Land of Leather. Delay a response Soak up as much time as possible Mislead the customer Frustrate the customer Make up anything and say anything to deter the customer The quicker you start putting all correspondence in writing the better. You need to expedite this all the way to the court. I would be rejecting the goods and claiming a full refund. It will take quite a bit of time and Land of Leather will continue to stall and delay. Just do your research and ask for help if you need it.
  2. It's a heated debate and maybe I have become very cynical but it would appear that this case has certainly assisted the banks for quite some time and hindered the average bank customer. This looks like it will continue in this limbo also. Maybe the OFT is not quite as aggressive or committed as the banks? I am no expert but Bookworm seems to have a very good grasp of the legalities, whereas I can not help seeing the benefit for the banks and the hinderance for the consumer in this. Time will tell of course but I feel for the people out there who really do need their money back, and the sooner the better. In some ways we are actually worse off because the court fee is a big outlay and that is in limbo as well as the unlawful bank charges. Fingers crossed for all of us that this is not a sham and the reult is in our favour.
  3. E-On (formerly Powergen) reading my meter regularly for 2 years but ignoring their own contractors reading because they did not agree to their system estimates. They sent me bills each quarter which I paid but end result was £900+ of debt which has taken nearly 12 months to pay off. Oh yeah and they refuse to accept any responsibility!!! It could have been much worse, so I am luck really. My advice - always always check your bills against your meter reading
  4. Hi All, Ok I have got on-line access to my BG account and it confirms I have a credit balance of £14 after the £106 refund, but the account history does not show an actual refund at present. I am waiting for my next bill, which will be an estimate as they have not read the meter for sometime. I will check the estimate against the actual and adjust accordingly before pursuing the other £64.00 they have charged me in charges. The question is are these charges legal???? Who can say when the gas useage took place and amounts became due? I have a credit balance due to a partial refund of their charges and have a credited balance when the meter was last read. Money makes money! Any help on the legality of these charges (£14 per letter etc) would be most welcomed.
  5. This sounds like a total nightmare yet it could be easily resolved if E.On UK plc showed a little bit of consideration and actually tried to resolve the situation instead of hounding you for money that may not be due. Stick with it and lean on the support on offer here. They took meter readings from me for 2 years but ignored them and I accrued a debt of £1K due this! They blamed me for it! They are very agressive but keep the ball in thier court all the time. Good Luck:)
  6. Hi There, I would suggest you look into this and the angle would be as you stated previously. My claim against Land of Leather was under the sale of goods and services act, so not relevant. In any case my claim is concluded. If you can get enough people to bring a class action (assuming that is possible) you could create a bit of a stir and the bad publicity alone will hit them where it hurts - on the bottom line. Good Luck with it.
  7. Thanks for the concise update. It looks like it will be a long wait either way. On the upside the interest is still accruing? Surely the banks will be aware of accruing interest on these claims? Just like their illegal and unfair charges, it will all add up to a vast sum! Are we being taken for a ride here?
  8. Can somebody who knows for sure please post a concise and up to date status please? Thanks in advance:)
  9. I have read about legal action being taken as a 'class action' in the medical sector and if I recall correctly you need 25 people to bring the same action against the defendant. Not sure if this still applies or if it would be applicable to a retail defendant. If it is the case you would easily get 25 claimants against this shower of thugs. They hung Dick Turpin for his crimes.
  10. Ok I have read some of the threads on this GREAT website and took the following action: Calculated that I had £170 of charges applied since late 2006 Called Energywatch to complain on 0845 9 06 07 08 They gave me a reference number and put me through to British Gas BG refunded me £106 because I could not log onto their website to pay my account (as a gesture of goodwill) I have accepted this refund but not agreed it as final settlement BG advised me their charges are legal The question is are they?
  11. late payment - mainly on estimated bills!. At one stage the account was £700+ but then in credit when I supplied a reading. I would seriously advise anyone with an estimated bill to check their meter.
  12. Hello All, I have had continous problems paying my utility bills over the last 18 months and accrued quite a few charges. I am now up todate with my British Gas (electricity) account except I deducted £64 in charges from my last payment in February. I am loathe to pay these charges. I received an overdue legal action letter dated 03/03/08 for the £64 in question so I called them on the 09/03/08 and the office was closed and I could not log onto their website (again). They have now sent me another letter dated 10/03/08 (rec'd today 20/03/08) for £78 and advising they have charged me another £14! Can I do anything except pay the £78 (or is it now £92) as the letter is not very clear. They really are a bunch of toskers! Ideally I would like them to shove their charges where the sun does not shine and change supplier. TIA for any advise.
  13. Hello to All, Just revisiting this after a long spell of major problems which meant I could not proceed. I will be looking at the site and posts to get up to date with the current state of affairs. In the meantime HBOS have been charging me regular fees on my account, which is seriously annoying. They have also just given me 2 weeks notice on my overdraft:mad: Anyone give me a brief overview on what is happening at present? TIA

  15. Just to advise anyone who is interested Land of Leather tried every tactic to delay and stall. The County Court unwittingly assisted Land of Leather but I got there in the end. I got a full refund plus my court costs and the accrued interest. They had to collect the pile of sh*ite they tried to pass off as a leather sofa. I was hoping to get judgement and send in the bailiffs but at least I got my money back. My advice to anyone dealing with this cowboy retailer is: DOCUMENT EVERYTHING DO NOT GET INVOLVED IN PROTRACTED VERBAL DISCUSSIONS GO STRAIGHT FOR THE LEGAL RESOLUTION ASAP Good Luck:)
