Robinson, Way and Company / Powergen
charlie1963 replied to kregrs's topic in Utilities - Gas, Electricity, Water
hi, due to problems with powergen i've just been through all my bills and to my horror when i worked out the units used on the prepayment meter up to the final reading when it was taken out years ago (wouldn't accept card], then added up all the money i put into the meter, they actually owe me hundreds. at the time i thought the meter just used what you put in and when the money was used you'd used that amount of electricity. the next prepayment meter went mad and i had a dry meter put in. i now find that after about 9mnths trying to get my credit back they suddenly changed the final reading to fit the money put in so they didn't have to pay me back!! might be a good idea just to check the readings with money spent plus standing charge and see if they've fiddled you. Ozzie seems to have gone but energywatch should be able to help you with the 2yr thing. good luck. -
I'm seriously toying with the idea of buying a second meter and having it installed at my side of powergens digital, high tech, radio communication, with data tracker and usage snoop meter!! They aren't too much money and they are fully reconditioned by the manufacturer which is a company as far as i'm aware are not owned by eon who own both powergen and metering services.

hi, ring energywatch and tell them whats going on. they should be able to get a check meter for you and see how the meters running. at least that way you'll be able to claim back your money if it's been overdoing it!! they seem pretty keen to take meters, i'm guarding mine until its been checked. i live alone, no hoover, pine floor. don't iron, no tv, just a kettle, washer, pc, microwave a few mins a day and my aquariums. with the aid of timers i've just managed to get down to £25 a week! somethings still wrong! so i know what you mean. living like a miser and paying massive bills. oh by the way my meter moved up 1 digit just under 10 mins before time. LOL just to add a lighter note to it all. be careful. i have my front room littered with powergen bills meter readings on the backs of envelopes, scraps of paper and a diary full of them, videos of the meter, check lists of wattages on stuff, times of trying each one accompanied of course by times and more readings and best bit of all,,,,,,, i'm absolutely hopeless at sums!! my scribblings and scratchings at workings out are rip my hair out stuff. still i know a big bill when i get one!! -
i've been told that the utilities warehouse are good and i have only seen one complaint on here. i think. i'm not saying there arent more but they might be worth investigating, or anyone else without complaints. another mate of mine said edf? were ok with him.

well if anyones interested, i'm just about to switch the few bits i have running, off, and run a 500watt halogen worklamp until the meter clicks over one digit, take the time and reading and run it for two hours, read the meter again and see how many units its clogged up!! -
hi, one way to find that one out is read your meter, switch off at your own fuse box everything in the house and then read it again an hour or two later, when you know the neighbours are around, not failsafe but might give you an idea. same with your gas, switch everything off and do the same.

Hi, Is does your usage not seem a little excessive? I read a reply from ozzy yesterday stating that £13 a week for electricity in a regular family of 4, and my sister pays around £150 a quarter for her gas and her house is like an oven. Might be a good idea to a few meter reads over the next few weeks. charlie -
hi, if i was you i'd contact energywatch. are you on economy 7? dont let them take the meter until it has been checked with a check meter, i'm guarding mine with a vengeance at the moment! charlie

£800 Powergen bill....
charlie1963 replied to Josamolly's topic in Utilities - Gas, Electricity, Water
Hi, Josamolly. I've managed to get mine down to £26 a week by avoiding the 18p a unit from 12.30am- 2.30am, having the storage heaters and immersion removed, and putting timers on everything else to use the 4p units. The fridge and freezer run for 2 hours through the day to top up and i've given up using the cooker, and hairdryer!! I don't use an iron dryer or hoover (i have a pine floor), don't have a tv and I use the fluorescent in the aquarium for lighting in the front room. I live alone in a 2 bed flat. I just found on all the gumpf on my electricity two meter readings from last year. 27th june06 4956 day rate, 12th july 06 5599, night rate 4731, 5393. What do you think of that then??????
