    Tax overcharge

Hi, We have a situation where our employer has persuaded us to agree to £4k paycut (or closure) Earnings will be protected for 12months but the difference has been paid in lump sum this month. This has resulted in us falling into 40% pay bracket even though we will be earning less than £30k (hmrc obviously taken this month's pay x 12). Is the onus on our employer to have sorted this, or us the employee (over 200 of us). The overpayment is about £600. Will we have to wait until next AprI'll to get rebate? Thanks, Danny.
  3. All sorted now. They guy says he paid £150 for it off bloke in the pub. After a bit of tooing & froing, I said I'd accept £150 refund which has just been posted through my door. Still feel a bit aggrieved that it cost £48 to get it back, but well worth it for sentimental value & considering I didn't really think I would see it again (14 months missing!) I had a voucher from insurance company which I never spent so I will just get them to cancel it. Out of curiosity - will this enable policy to revert back to no claims? (Have never claimed on for anything else). Thanks all for your input.
  4. ha thanks ashmk - not really my style though + I don't know how big this lad is & he knows where I live now
  5. Update: After no reply I re-asked the question this morning. Just had a reply from her boyfriend who says she panicked last night & made up the story about buying it from girl she worked with. What 'actually' happened was he bought the watch from a bloke who used to drink in his pub. The bloke apparently took his address & said he would send the paperwork so he had no idea it was lost or stolen. He would gladly meet me to discuss Still no offer of refund though!
  6. Ha ha, interesting read BankFodder, thanks. For info: My watch was £995 when bought 6 years ago (not mega bucks but a significant amount to me & missus - my wife had saved up for it for my 30th birthday). The watch is now discontinued but is still sold on couple of sites @ £795-£895 new. I have bought back off Ebay for £198 I have since contacted the seller couple of times: q.) to ask if she still has contact with person who sold it to her a.) no, the last time she saw her when was when they were working together. q.) could I have her name & place where they worked together a.) no reply as yet I will post updates. Cheers.
  7. Thanks for replies. I haven't contacted ebay yet as wasn't sure what my rights were to pursue. (This only happened this evening!)
  8. Hi yes they are, they actually dropped the watch off at my house after I purchased!
  9. Hi, My watch went missing off my wrist when I was out in Nov 2013. (Don't know if it fell off or was pinched). I logged a report on reportmyloss as Merseyside police no longer log items such as watches unless specific criteria met. I have regularly checked ebay to see if it would appear. This week I finally found it & won the bid! The watch is definitely mine as it has a unique ID that matches the paperwork I have. I have asked the seller how they ended up with the watch & they say they bought it off someone they used to work with. I have explained that I have proof of purchase etc, but they have offered no refund. Do I have anywhere to stand in trying to claim back the money I have paid for my own watch? Many Thanks, Danny.
  10. Judge ruled in our favour - thanks again raydetinu!!
  11. Thanks again raydetinu. They have until 7th July to respond - I'll let you know outcome.
  12. Hi, I asked for refund again & they offered £50 good will gesture, which I refused again. I sent them a LBA & there was no response. So I finally opened court claim via Small Claims Court. They still have 10 days left to submit their response. Yesterday, they came back to me telling me that they are still in their rights per the t&c's on website. They say complaint should have been within 5 days of event. We went on honeymoon for 2 weeks on the Monday & issued our complaint within 5 working days of returning. Below are the points they highlight which feel protect them & will use in their defence: 16. Following an artist/supplier or product service arriving on site the full fee becomes payable by the Client/Venue booker to the Company. 21. All complaints must be received in writing within 1-5 days of the event. Each complaint will be dealt with on an individual basis and a response issued within 7-14 days. The Company acts as an agency and will not accept responsibility for non-fulfilment or breach of any agreement/contract. Any compensations due will be at the discretion of the supplier/artist. Artists that hold membership of Agent Association will be automatically entitled to their full fee payable once contract has been agreed. 22. Full refunds will only be considered if complaints are received in writing within 12 hours of the event and the artiste/supplier is turned away at the Venue by the Venue/Client. Once the artiste/supplier has fulfilled stated hours detailed in confirmation then the full fee becomes payable and no refunds applicable. They also say that my wife said the curtain "must" be in a certain location. This is not the case, when asked where she would like the curtain to be placed, she said behind the buffet table! Had she been given the choice between this location with no lights or in a different location with lights - I think the choice would have been pretty obvious! Your thoughts on who might win here would be appreciated. Many Thanks.
