  1. Have you tried going for a run to charge up the battery - sounds like typical land rover error - the battery needs to be in top condition and have/hold decent charge or it'll be lit up like a Christmas tree - I'd suspect that they left the key in the ignition and radio / climate etc on with engine off and the volts have dropped (my range rover does the same every now and then an example is if the windows are down it doesn't "sleep" so climate/radio/sat nav etc all drawing small amounts of power, fine to start and all warnings and alarms going - hdc / abs / low gear / coolant temp etc - all fine after an Italian tune up)
  2. [quote=Helping the UK debt!;4406159Going by the legislation, as soon as someone transfers their insurance over to a new vehicle whilst still in possession of their old car they must SORN the old car immediately (traders aside) as they do not know how long it will take to sell - especially as nobody will be able to test drive it! TTFN I recently (last month) bought a car in a private sale and put my old car up for sale privately (both cars had valid Tax), in order to avoid SORN and to allow for test drives etc I bought temporary car insurance cover (30 days) when transfering my insurance from the old to new vehicle - I sold the old car within 2 weeks so no issue there.
  3. Quick updateI spoke to my insurers, swapped to the new car and started a temp cover policy for 30 days.....Any one want a Saab 9-3 tid auto?
  4. Thanks How do I get around the continuous insurance issue - it's taxed which I'd like to sell with the car - park on a private drive so not on the road - does it need to be SORN'd and is there an issue if driven on the road for a test drive..... **can't seem to get the text to work with with line breaks in it**
  5. I check that - but seem to think my third party cover is for any car not owned by meJust didn't want to be in the position if someone wants to test drive that I can't let them due to no insurance with this continuous insurance lark
  6. Hi All, Appreciate any advice I've bought a new (to me) car before selling my exisitng car - my exisitng car is taxed until next year and I hope to sell it as soon as possible. I'm swapping my existing insurance to my new car which will mean my exisitng car will be uninsured - can potential purchasers test drive my old car (without any cover from me) providing they have third party cover or will I still need to insure my exisiting car. I'm looking at getting "laid up" cover - will this effect anyone taking for a test drive? Thanks
  7. Got to admit it felt good when I opened up the letter and the cheque fell out
  8. Sorry for the delay in updating, we've been away on holiday. Got back from hols to find a letter from Dixons Retail Group apologising for not sorting the repair out in the first instance along with a cheque for the amount claimed for and the court fees (over £150 as I claimed for my cost in driving to nearest Curry's store to drop / collect the laptop, my time etc) - great result - thanks for the tips and help from the members on this site - donation time
  9. Update - Currys have issued Acknowledgment Of Service 05/08/13 - do I need to do anything yet? Thanks so far for advise
  10. Hi citizenB Thanks for the info regarding the photos and CPR I'll certainly request them to be sent me
  11. Touch pad buttons are OK - as said it's been looked after really well - that's what annoyed me more with there attitude that it's "customer abuse" if the laptop was beaten up it'd be fair play they could argue the damage but its 100% just broken from normal use. Hell of a mark up on the socket -as a gesture of good will Curry's asked me to pay £44.72 for the part and they would pay for the labour to repair - I refused and said see you in court - 4 days until the get the papers served....
  12. Hi Labrat Bang on with the model - it's the G6 - I'll have a look at getting photo's myself - didn't fancy talking it apart I know what you mean about getting it sorted myself as it'd be less hassle - was quoted around £100 without the place seeing it - but it's the principal of the thing - it'd had been fair enough if I'd damaged it myself but the fact it's due to plugging / unplugging the headphone socket in (I use headphones that are in my Ipod) and the cost then I don't see why I should pay anything to get it fixed and let Curry's get off scot free Anyway it's a done deed now - submitted the claim via MCOL at lunchtime today - I'll update as it progresses.
  13. Hi Labrat There is no physical damage externally, they have told me that the socket has split internally (this is why they are refusing a free repair - my argument is if it's split it obviously wasn't fit for purpose) They have photo's of the damaged socket, I have asked for copies of the photos and was told I have to send a sar request (with £10) - should I send this and add the £10 to the claim? I have a temporary usb headphone socket but as the laptop is new (under 6 months at time of fault) and cost me £399 I want it fixing for free so I'm happy to go to court if necessary to get what I'm entitled to.
  14. Thanks for the reply DX put my mind at rest With regard to the summons is it best to name Sebastian James as the respondent? Thanks again - I'll donate when sorted
