  4. One last thing, is it worth trying to get the charges on the balances refunded because I know 1 of them took the card over the credit limit before they defaulted her and has charges totalling nearly £350?
  5. They were, she's only had them for 2/3 years. I'll talk to her and I'll take over dealing with everything for her. Thanks for your advice, I know where to start now.
  6. Thanks for the reply. I know her credit rating is shot but would it not look a tiny bit better if they were shown as part paid? The 2 that have defaulted are already with debt collection agencies so I wouldn't be going to the original company with an offer because I know they wouldn't accept it. It's not an option to get them all defaulted, it's bad enough with the letters she's getting now, I don't think she (or I) cope with anymore. I just want this sorted as quickly as possible for her.
  7. Hi, My daughter has gotten herself into financial difficulty. She currently has 4 credit cards and has defaulted on 2 of them. One has a balance of £600 that's she's managed to pay on time every month. One is £2500 which she fell behind with but I gave her the money to get it up to date before they defaulted her. The other 2 have balances of approx £3000 and £6000 and both were defaulted last year. I've said I'd help her try and sort everything out and am able to give her money to pay some of these but not the full amounts. I'm thinking of paying off the 2 up to date ones and offering a reduced settlement figure for the other 2 just to get them out of the way. She suffers quite badly from depression and the stress of all this is not helping her at all. For settlement figures what percentage is most likely to be affected by the companies? (Barclaycard & Capital One) Would they even entertain the idea? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
  8. Hi, I (stupidly) have a Vanquis credit card. Had it for a few years and everything was fine although I am always close to my limit. I do everything online and last month the access to my account was denied for some reason. I know I wasn't over my card limit and I always watch this very closely to avoid charges. This meant I couldn't make a payment online and they didn't send me a paper statement. I've now received a paper statement for this month which shows that due to missing last months payment I am now over the limit. As a result they charged me a late payment charge and an over limit charge totalling £24 . Can I just tell them I'm not paying the charges and ask them to recalculate my interest as I assume that will be higher (albeit by not much) because of the charges? Thanks in advance for any advice.
  9. OK thanks for the advice. I was hoping because she was sacked immediately after raising a grievance this would give her some recourse. Employment laws are definitely sided towards the employer
  10. Hi, My daughter has been working for a relatively small firm for 8 months. In all this time she has felt as if she was being bullied by one of the managers. It got so bad that she raised a grievance against him. In her letter documenting this she included examples of bullying and she also got statements from other members of staff which showed she was being treated differently/unfairly. She received a letter on Tuesday saying the grievance wasn't being upheld. No surprise there, the manager doing the bullying has been there a long time and is friendly with the owner. She was advised she had 7 days to appeal the decision which she was going to do. She went to work this morning and was told 5 minutes before her finishing time that she was sacked. She has to wait on the official letter stating this but was told it was because of absences and arriving late. She was spoken to about the lateness in December and was told if it didn't improve she would be disciplined, she hasn't been late since then. Another reason given was the sending of joke emails to her co-workers but everyone in the office did this. They were all spoken to about it and nothing has been sent since. Can she just be sacked on the spot or should they have to go through a disciplinary process? Is it a case of her only working there a short period of time so they can do what they want? Any advice welcome.
  11. Thanks, that's what I'll do then. One more question. I phoned Canada Square operations about the SAR and their request for a document showing my current address. All they've done is send me another letter asking the same again. Should I write to them telling them (again) I've been at this address for 22 years? The only documents I have in my name with my address on are bank statements, everything else is in my partners name. I'm a bit wary of giving them my bank details.
  12. I'm now receiving 2 letters a week from Wescot! Should I send them a letter telling them to stop contacting me as I'm dealing with Egg direct or just totally ignore them?
  13. I sent the SAR to Egg with the £10 enclosed. I've received a letter today saying the address they have on record doesn't match my current address so they need a bill/statement showing my current address. I've lived here for the past 22 years so this can't possibly be right, there's absolutely no way the debt goes back that far. If they don't have my current address how did the debt collection agencies know to write here? Is this just a case of them stalling for time? They have said the 40 days won't start until they get this information.
  14. I'm not phoning any of them again, going to deal with everything in writing. I really need to get this sorted though. I've recently separated from my husband and before we can finalise our finances with a separation agreement we need to know whether we are going to have to pay this £3000 debt or not. For this we need something in writing so ignoring it isn't an option. I really need advice on what to do. Do I still send the SAR to Egg? Would it help to send one to Wescot/Arrow if they have bought the debt? Do I challenge the CCA they've sent me seen as it's not compliant? Or should I chance sending the Statute Barred letter and put the onus on them to prove I've paid/acknowledged the debt within the last 5 years. Between this and my marriage breakdown it's making me sick with worry, I'm already suffering from depression and really struggling just now.
  15. Thanks for your advice. We ended up in severe financial trouble about 9 years ago and went through hell trying to sort it out, I'm not going down that route again. I'll see a solicitor asap.
