Default council tax backdated bill

hi, i am being charged £3500 for council tax because my council put me in the wrong charging band, they have backdated the payment for 4yrs, what can i do as this is not my fault, help needed please.

no, its a old house, am in england, i used to get an exemption as being a student, i was still getting that exemption whist i graduated, but now i received several letters for each year not being a student for the amount owned. they is not fair

hi ive been sent a bill for council tax and they are saying its from 2005 aparantly i owe it but i havnt got records from that far back.i phoned the council tax and they say owe it and i have to pay it.im being threatened with bailiffs and have been told i need to prove i dont owe it or its got to be paid...can they do this? i didnt even know i owed this amount till a few weeks ago.. any help would be appreciated

ask the council in question for a copy of the original demand, check the address and the account number i know its basic but they do make mistakes
