Smile Overpayment of Council Tax in 1998

I went to my local civic centre with a query regarding my council tax this week and the lady I saw advised me that I had overpayed my council tax by £1600.00 in 1999-2000,she advised me to put in writing that i wish to have a refund. i have written them a formal letter requesting a refund but before i post i would like to know if am i due any interest on this amount and if so what percentage or roughly how much.

you wont get interest - there's nothing in the legislation with regards to paying interest therefore its not paid.

This is indeed the case i claimed carers discount which i did not know about going back to 1993 for £6575 and no interest was paid.

I assume its because the council is a government dept.
