Angry Has anyone had a go at Intelligent Finance?

Am sending off letter tomorrow requesting statements. We have banked with Intelligent finance who are part of the Halifax for the last 5 years and dread to think how much we have paid in charges. It's a vicious circle every month with them, I must be getting taken for £50-£150 every month. I've tried to speak to them just to ask if they can hold off the charges for a couple of months so I can get straight but no joy so it's time for some action.
Can anyone tell me what the situation is if the bank decides to defend it in court? Would I have to hire a solicitor etc and what are the costs involved?

Hi jbs,
firstly-don't panic!
Depending on the size of your claim-if less than £5000 it should be heard in the small claims court. However, first you need to find out exactly how much the bank have taken from you in unlawful charges. Use the Data Protection Act letter, in the bank templates library to request a breakdown of charges or statements for (up to ) the last 6 years. enclose a cheque/PO for £10, although some people are finding if they phone and request the statements they are only being charged £5. Look into it. Anyway, the bank then have 40 days to send you the requested info, so, while you are waiting spend time on this site. Read the FAQ's. The step by step instructions and read as many threads as you can. you will see how the bank respond and will know what to expect. Keep your own thread updated and ask any questions when you get stuck. you will find that people respond quickly. Above all, arm yourself with as much knowledge as you can. Don't let the bank bully you or fob you off with standard delay tactics. Stick to your timetable and... GO FOR IT!

Good luck
Nona

Hi, I was just wondering if you could tell me what address you sent your request for DP info too? I'm just over the 40 day mark and haven't heard anything from them so want to check it's gone to the right place before I start chasing them...

Has anyone else tackled IF and had a result of any kind?

Thanks

Would serve it on the Halifax.

Intelligent Finance caused a melt down with all my finances and not only do they hammer you, their customer service is abysmal, actions bordering if not illegal and to top it off selling debts on which don't exist.

I must say they were quick to provide my credit card statemnts without the need for a Data Protection Act request and without cost.

The best thing was due to it being part of my PLAN, I have also received the data relating to my loan and current account as well.

Fun to be had, I think IF deserve to be hit hard.

Regards
