Re: French driver; How to claim insurance from him/his firm As has been stated above, you need to put this through your insurance company. They will then work through an intermediary company who will deal directly with the other vehicles insurance company in France.
I had a Belgian woman run into the back of our car in Ghent - luckily her daughter spoke English (the driver was a Flemish speaker), so we were able to exchange details. It was then put in the hands of our insurance company when we got back to the UK, and eventually resolved.
However, don't expect it to be sorted quickly - my claim took about ten months.
