Default Advice needed - Insurance claim - Please Help!

Admiral sent me a default notice requesting for the remaining balance to be paid by 02/04/07. I was away and I never received the letter until I came home on 07/04/07. They never called me and now they have said my insurance has been cancelled.

I was involved in an accident on 08/04/07 as a result of a third-party crashing in the back of my car at a roundabout. I called the police and they confirmed it wasn't my fault. I also have witnesses as well. The police gave me a reference number and told me to contact my insurance company.

I called them today and spoke to a manager who said they would reinstate my insurance if I pay the balance today. I agreed and they asked me about any accidents in the last week and I told them. The manager said my claim would not be covered and they will not be insuring me

My car is worth £5000 and it might be a write-off. Should I make a complaint to Admirals chairman? And is it possible to contact the third-party insurance company directly? If this is not possible, what other options do I have?

Please help

Thanks

You can contact the third party Insurer direct.

Put this in your letter

I refer to an accident that occured between myself and ***** on [date].

The circumstances of the accident are that your Insured drove into the back of me at the mini roundabout situated on ****.

I hold your Insured fully responsible for the collision, and will be recovering my uninsured losses from yourself.

**DELETE WHAT IS NOT APPLICABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING**

I enclose an estimate to repair my vehicle for £xxx.xx, and would appreciate authorisation to proceed. The vehicle is available for inspection at *****. I also enclose an invoice for £xx.xx for hire charges. I have had to hire a vehicle, costs of which are still ongoing, but the rate of the hire is £xx a day/week, commencing **/**/2007.

I look forward to hearing from you with admission of liability and proposals for settlement.

Good Luck

If you have the third party insurer info you can make the initial contact by telephone as many now agree/permit you to use their own approved repairers and will even provide a courtesy car in some instances.
