Thumbs up Sky insurance **WON**

After whats been going on with my bank recently and reading this site I have had a good study of all our bank statements and realised that we had been paying for sky insurance. On contacting the bank we were told that we had been paying since December 2002, yet every year we get a phone call and a letter asking if we want this insurance and we always say no. We dont insure electrical items anyway but this is a complete con because its £9.90 per month (£118.80 per year), whereas if you dont have insurance and things go wrong Sky charge a £65 call out which covers whatever they need to fix and they give a 1 year waranty with it. We know this as we have had to call them out 4 times since 2002 (twice they came out free as we created a fussabout the charge), but each time we have called they told us we were not insured. We called them about this insurance and were given a policy number and an address to write to for a refund. Today we have had a reply and they have refunded us 1 months money (£9.90). I think they are taking the p***.

I want to send a S.A.R. / Data protection act or freedom of information act request or whatever it is called for insurance companies as I'd like to know where they got our bank details from (it is the same account we pay sky through) and who authorised them to set up this policy. Does anyone know how I write this request?

Thanks
Darren

I would just write asking for a copy of the agreement that you signed under the Data Protection Act.

When they can't give it to you, Iwould then write asking for a full refund plus interest, and let them know that you are quite willing to take the case to court.

Had a couple of letters telling us to sod off. Sent LBA on 20th sept. telling them we would be issuing a court summons. Just had a reply saying they were not at fault but would be crediting our account with the full amount they have taken over the last 4 years £286.50

I will update when the money is in the bank and of course be making a donation

No £286.50 in total, they took £6.90 for first 10 months of each year x 3 years = £219 and £9.90 for 8 months this year so £286.50 is about right. It went up this year because we upgraded to sky+, another con as sky's call out charge is still only £65

Our new sky+ went wromg just after it was a year old, after a bit of banter we agreed to pay £65 call out. teh engineer replaced something outside and gave us his mobile number in case it went wrong again, he came back 3 times and gave us a new box and a new dish in the end. The £65 covered all of this and it comes with 1 years warantee, so what is the point of paying £99 per year to insure it.
The insurance is run by domestic and general.
