Angry Bennetts Bike Insurance

Hi All

Nice little story for you

Bit of help needed here I had my bike Insurance with Bennetts and always found them to be one of the best I have dealt with and never had a problem until now.

I had a accident in December and was off work until now and missed the DD for the Insurance and got a letter from them asking for the rest of the premium which was £36.43 so payed it off with a debit card (on the 28th march) and was told the payment was made and that was the end of it.

Then on the 12th of April I get a letter from the Dept Recovery dept at bennetts asking for the £36.43 again so phoned them and got a right snooty little *** and said that the payment was not made and I still had to pay the money.

So phoned Abbey and they confirmed that the payment WAS made and the money left the account on the 3rd of April.

Phoned bennetts and they said that no payment was received by them and I would have to pay it or prove to them what abbey had said so phoned the bank and got a statement sent out to show it and sent this with a nice letter to them.

On the 24th of April get a letter from Creditlink DCA asking for payment and phoned them and told them what had gone on and would you believe it they were VERY helpful and said that they would pass it back to bennetts and didn't charge me anything ( must be a first for a DCA)

Bennetts had by then canceled my Insurance and defaulted me and they had the letter and copy of the statement on the 5th of July (via Recorded delivery) and still not contacted me.

SO I am going to write another letter and make it a BIG complaint as they don't seem to give a sh**.

Any Ideas on what to put or should I just S.A.R - (Subject Access Request) them under the Data Protection Act?.

Thanks and sorry for the long post

I use bennetts too - and haven't had any problems with them so far.

I had a similar problem with talktalk - DD bounced called them and paid it by debit card - then they sent it to a DCA. The DCA was really helpful and talktalk were not.

I think you just write to them again referrring to the letter where you sent the copy statement showing the payment, and telling them to remove the default from your credit file. have a look through this thread - http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk...moving+default - should be some info you can use in there.

Thanks Karnevil and will send a letter today and see what they have to say.

I have always found them helpful and sad that they have acted this way but will keep this thread updated.

I'm with bennetts as well. I missed my DD but luckily so far it's been ok.
What they have done is I think breach of contract (not sure on insurance) as you have paid outright.

For Bike insurance try ebike.com, they proved to be much much cheeper than Bennetts. It's all done online. With my husbands bike it happened to be nearly 200pounds cheeper.

Bennetts is part of Budget insurance. Bennetts are based in coventry, However at one particular time they couldnt cope with all the bike quotes and filtered them out to a place in Hilllingdon Middx. If you dont get any luck from Coventry try 01895 232212. That is the office that used to deal with the overflow bennetts calls.

Good luck!!!
