Default travel insurance cancellation

hi guys, please could you help me with my travel insurance that we have just recently taken out.we booked a holiday mid june for sept 10th and just recently got the insurance off the internet.my sister who had breast cancer for 2 yrs ago and recovered from the treatment, but then she was recently taken ill(may 0.she had some radiotherapy and recovered again, with scans showing clear(june/july)but the doctors then told us she had only a few months to live.she deteriorated this week and died suddenly.

The policy had a clause which covered an unforseen illness or death of a close relative.

What would be your advice in regard to mking a claim as we do not feel able to go due to this sudden bereavement and the funeral plans and am worried that they may not pay out as the insurance was only taken out just over a week ago as it is our practice to book our insurance on the internet a few weeks before our holiday is due. The family are very upset and we are a very close family who need to support each other at a time like this.

Please can you please mail us back as to your thoughts on the chance of getting a refund in a case like this as very worried and stressed at a time like this.

Many thanks.

Although I sympathsise with your predicament, unfortunately I very much doubt a claim would be successful.

You booked the holiday (mid June) after your sister was taken ill (May 0
and took out insurance (a week ago) after she was told she only had a few months to live (June/July). And presumably the funeral will have taken place by the time of the holiday.

The cancellation charge with the tour operator at this late stage is likely to be 100% of the cost of the holiday anyway..

The only advice I can offer is to wait until September, and depending on how you and other family members feel, decide then whether to go or not.

Sorry I can't be more positive.

Firstly, I'm very sorry for your loss.

It's always a good idea to get insurance the same day you book your hols. Otherwise the insurer can reject your claim because you knew you'd be likely to cancel your hols when you bought the policy.

You also knew that your sister had a history of cancer, being treated just a couple of months before you booked your hols. Even if her scans in July showed her to be in the clear, there's not many insurers who would touch that type of risk. If you'd declared her cancer to the insurer when you booked the holiday, I'm fairly certain they'd exclude all claims arising from her condition.

Sorry but I think you're gonna struggle to get paid.

I agree with
