Default Swinton car insurance

I took out car insurance with Swinton back in June and paid a deposit and they took my first months payment, approx £120 in total. In the meantime they cancelled my insurance after not receiving my NCD in the allotted time. So basically I was insured for around a month.

They contacted me and told me I needed to pay and extra £68 for cover I received, obviously I dispute this. Called the branch and only the manger can deal with my case and he's never available to speak with me.

So now I've got a letter with an extra £25 admin fee attached and they're saying they will take the owed money from the debit card I paid the deposit with, can they do this? And is the £25 admin fee lawful?

Thanks

probably not. You say covered for about a month. The extra premium based on the deposit amount would indicate an extra two weeks cover. Is that right?

I think they have a cheek sending a letter to you because they wont put you hrough to the manager. Write in.

they can only take payment from your card if u have given them authorisation to do so. this may be in the form of agreeing for them to take future payments when u took out the policy. double check, they are a shambles outfit. they took a deposit from my bank for the forthcoming renewal which was 2 months away and i then had a huge problem getting it back. i personally would never use them again, they may be cheap as per the comparison website but you do get what u pay for and then they sting you wherever they can with so called admin charges. good luck.

[quote=martin2006;1655210] they are a shambles outfit.

here here Martin

I too am having problems with this shower. My daughter paid over £2k for fully comp insurance and another girl drove into her and drove off without leaving her details and they have done noting to help my daughter only to demand the remaining amount- she still is awaiting settlement and the accident was back in March the FOS are now dealing if this is fully comp service then god help anyone who takes out 3rd party - steer clear of this lot

Sorry GAVBU28 this isn't much help to you though perhaps you could report them too to the FOS
