Default Contents Insurance Problems

Hello there,

To cut a long story short, my camcorder was stolen, and I am now making a claim under my contents policy. The camera purchased 5 years (since then discontinued) ago cost £900 pounds and was cutting edge technology (smallest tape camcorder in the world). I went to my local Sony centre for a replacement quote, and was quoted £899 for a camera of comparable technology. I sent this quote in as requested by my insurer. After 5 days I rang to see how the claim was progressing to be told, that the quote was not right, and they would now be dealing through their supplier (at the time I was told they would not be). I have subsequently been told that their supplier is trying to give me a camera worth £400. Also they have rung a Sony centre and been told a different model to the one Iwas quoted. So whats the point of me going to get a quote from my local centre if they dont believe it? If I had my £900 pounds today I certainly wouldn't be trying to buy a £400 camcorder! Also the model I have been quoted for is a discontinued one! I have new for old cover, and feel that my insurer is trying to short change me. What can I do to recover a greater proportion of my initial outlay, as I feel that they are trying their best to obstructive and not pay out for the technology I bought originally. I am with a compnay called Payment Shield.

Cheers

Default Re: Contents Insurance Problems

The price you paid some 5 years ago, for that camcorder would be indeed somewhat cheaper nowadays, these have dropped in price as more and more brands come on the market, since the one you had stolen is dis-continued, your insurance company are offering you one similar to the one stolen, you are suggesting you have one priced at £900 one at that price would have to be the best in the world if i was paying, the insurance have found one similar to the one stolen, at a smaller cost of £400 if it does the same as your stolen one whats the problem, whether it be £900 or £400 you are still being put back in the postion as before the camcorder was stolen, you are been given new for old albit cheaper than the quote/item you desire.....
