Default Firebond and Powermile LTD

I recently took out a classic car insurance policy with Firebond.

I sold the car and cancelled the policy on 17th July 07. That’s was it, or so I thought, I received a letter from Powermile who apparently are the credit company telling me that I owed them £38.07p - I disputed this with Firebond (my insurance company) they said that if I paid one final payment of £17 07p my account would be up to date and closed.

I agreed and used my Debit card to pay them. .. Phew I thought.

Today I have received yet another letter from Powermile demanding £38.42p and threatening to take it from the debit card they have on file for me...

Am I alone or is Powermile/Firebond acting like this to any of their other customers.... Be warned don’t let this happen to you.

The amazing this is that Firebond and Powermile are owned by the same people Mr DC Hinks and DR GL Hinks, share the same offices and yet this is happening ... only now are they saying I have to write to Powermile explaining the cancellation etc

What should I do?

Hi Avlasc,

Firstly you need to find out who is charging you for what. If your policy was with Firebond then you need to firstly contact them and find out what exactly you owe them and the reasons why. If you've already paid them the £17.07 which they said would clear the balance, then what is the £38.42 for. Next you need to speak to Powermile and remind them that taking money from your card without your consent is tantamount to fraud, and also request that they give you time to investigate this matter before they continue proceedings.
Hopefully this should be simple to sort out once its all ironed out, just means a bit of donkey work to start with, thats all.

Hope it helps
