Asset Protection Insurance , A warning. Hello, I'm new to this group, but I'd like to warn members about a clause in some payment protection insurance policies.
Many contain a clause that excludes payout on lower back problems unless an abnormality shows up on a radiological scan.
I took out insurance on a £3000 unsecured bank loan, (have previously had and repaid a loan with the same bank). I suffered an injury to my lower back/sacro illiac joint at work. An MRI scan showed two dehydrated discs, and clinical examination left no doubts as to a severe injury. The Dept Works and Pensions has scored me with 25 points (15 needed) and I need no longer provide sicknotes from my Doctor to claim incapcity benefits. They also don't wish to examine me again until 2012.
The bank won't define abnormal and say that the disc damage could be age related.I was 48 when it happened. So my abnormalities are normal ones not abnormal abnormalities.
So if you work in an industry where back problems are a risk, and take out loan etc insurance please avoid policies that have this exclusion, or get them to specify abnormality in advance. I explained my job in full when taking out the loan etc. The policy was their recommended one, but now they say "Not all our policies have this exclusion".
Now that I've done some research, it shows that MRI's etc can not show a diffitive cause of lower back pain in even 1% of cases.
Pay the extra and get better cover.
This is being dealt with by the Ombudsmans service, but I've been warned by the adjudicator that it unlikely my case will succeed. |
