Default Old account HSBC No account Number

Hi,

I am currently starting to claim charges back from Halifax. But I had an account with HSBC which was closed about 3 years ago which did accumilate a number of charges, could I claim this back even though I haven't got any account number as it was a while ago?

Any advice/telephone numbers would be appreciated as this account was in a real mess - I left my husband to cut a long story short and got in a mess while I was trying to get on my feet.

Hi Littlemissbeck.

You can claim penalty charges back from any bank account, open or closed. You can claim up to six years, back from the date that the claim is issued by the county courts.

Write to them and give them details of your address(es) at the time that the account was open. If you have any old utility bills showing your name and address as proof of your identity, so much the better.

Regards, Rooster.

HSBC are really good at stalling. Although they claim to the the world's local bank, I would assume that having to pass information back and forth to india (probably not all that local) has something to do with it. Still, no matter.

You can get your account number I believe from your credit reference file. This will store details of accounts held for 6 years, so give that a go. You can buy this service on line too.

Send me a message if you'd like further advice on this, and good luck against both halifax and hsbc
