Default Couldnt get on Plane Insurance say tough

Hi all

I am not too sure on all the details but I will tell you what I know and any more questions I will find out the answers.

A friend of mine was going to go on Holiday to Tunisia with her daughter and a few friends.

Now my friend has been abroad lots of times without any problems at all.

This time however she had a Panic attack and just could not get on the plane. She has NEVER suffered of these before but as anybody who has had these would know they are very scary.

The holiday had been booked since January. She had taken out insurance with axa. Now the insurance started from when she took it out in January and she was supposed to fly out a couple of weeks ago.

She has gone to claim on the insurance and apparently the company have said that she was only insured IF she was in a different country.

Is this the norm with this kind of thing or are they just trying to get out of it paying? She has doctors notes and things to prove it. The way the insurance company have made it sound it was a medical insurance that covers for hospitilisation and other medical expenses and nothing else. Again is this normal for holiday insurance?

I can only apologise but this is a new one on me so dont now a thin about it,

Thankyou

We had a very similar situation years ago, and the insurance paid out.

However, it would really depend solely on the terms of the insurance to be honest.

In short: BS.

Unless your mate made a mistake on the dates from which the cover starts, then the cover starts from that date, NOT the location, which is obvious considering that there are options to cover flight delays, missed flight due to traffic and what not.

AXA's own travel policy says:
Quote:

What is covered

We
will pay you up to £3,000 for any irrecoverable unused travel and accommodation costs
(...) which

you have paid or are contracted to pay together with any reasonable
additional travel expenses incurred if
a) cancellation of the

trip is necessary and unavoidable or
b) the
trip is curtailed before completion

as a result of any of the following events occurring:
1. The death,

bodily injury or illness of:
a)
you

and
Quote:

If
you cancel the trip due to:
a) stress, anxiety, depression or any other mental or nervous disorder that
you are suffering
from
you must provide a medical certificate from a consultant specialising in the relevant
field or
b) any other
bodily injury or illness you must provide a medical certificate from a medical
practitioner

stating that this necessarily and reasonably prevented you from travelling.
Get him to write back quoting their own policy at them. They're trying it on.

Hi all

Thanks for the previous replies. I spoke to me friend the other day and asked if she has heard anything. The company was tomson who she was insured ith and apparently when she took out the insurance she SHOULD have received a little booklet. It sounds as if this little booklet set out all the terms and what you can and cannot claim for. It turns out that in this book it states that Anxiety cannot be claimed for.

My friend did not actually receive this book and therefore wants to write a harsh letter of complaint. Any ideas anybody? What do we think her chances are.?

Regards

Anxiety and panic attacks are related but different. If she has no history of panic attacks then this should surely be an unpresictable illness?

Thanx both of you.
Bookworm I will get ack to you on that one tomorrow.

Poppynurse, yes I am with you on that one. This has never happened to her before. She was completely bemused as to how this suddenly came on. Like I already said, she has flown lots of times before and she generally a very together person. So yes it was certainly unpredicted.
