Default Steam train holidays gone bust

My grandma paid for a day trip with Steam Train holidays (think this is their name) which was due in a few weeks but kept getting reschuled - tey said it was as there was maintaince going on in that area the train would be passing through.

Anyway my Grandma and her friends all tried to get their money back as each paid approx £180 for this.

The company kept saying the cheque refund would be sent soon but now they have gone into liquidation.

Does anyone know if my nan and her friends have a chance of getting their money back as the total is just under a grand!

Typically they all paid by cheque which got cashed quick enough!

Any advice greatfully received

These liquidation rules are all wrong. They accepted bookings from people knowing that there was little chance that anyone would actually be going on this holiday.

They knew the state of the company and yet still advertised and banked the booking fees that were sent.

To me, that is theft and should be treated as such.

If this has gone into genuine liquidation and accountants have been assigned to wind it up or disolve it, it is very unlikely you will see any return.

The first on the list are the companies that supplied goods etc and not the ones that actually put the funds in (this is the wrong way around).

yes it has definately gone into liquidation. Some bloke bough the company cheap knowing about the debt about 6 months ago but the comapny hadn't revealed how big the debt was so this chap couldn't keep it running and there are reports he has lost a very large sum too - there was news that prior to the true debt being shown some people were getting cheque refunds - whether these cleared or not I don't know.
These day trips were not cheap as it was for a 6 hour journey on a steam train with silverservice breakfast and dinner so you can imagine the amount that people have paid (they advertised in readers digest).

Well I only have limited sympathy with him, you don't buy something like that without an accountant looking at it first.

I do have full sympathy with you though as it probably means you will not be seeing any return.

You now need the details of the liquidator and get yourself registered as a creditor with them. There is always the chance they could find a buyer and sell it as a going concern and then you might get something back.

Can you confirm the company name and possibly address? As I can't find any company with the name you have given in original post.

Presumably the company involved is "Steamy Affairs", which were purchased by Adrian Parcell's last year and became part of the Cotswold Rail group of companys.

Steamy Affairs went into liquidation at the end of last year owing several hundred customers money for trips that they had paid for in advance.
