Default Loan Account

Am I in any position to claim anything back from HFC. I took a loan out 2 years ago for what I thought was £8000 to help clear other loans, by the end of my meeting was around £15000.. I defaulted about 1 year after taking out the loan and therefore have incurred admin charges of around £250. If I were to pay the loan off now I would only pay £8000. If I waited till the end of term (loan taken over 84 months) then it would be around the 15k. I spoke to the bank and have been informed that although they have added these charges I have not paid them yet because they are not charged monthly, they are added to the term of the loan. And as I continue to pay my monthly arranged amount this is just taken off the agreed loan amount. Please help me understand.

Do you kno what these 'admin charges' are for? Is there any other info given?

The reason I ask is because there might be some charge for dealing with the default in there, and we don't want to confuse the issue. In all likelyhood, it will be 'late or missed payment' type charges, but we could do with knowing for sure...

Yes, from what the bank clerk told me the charges were for late/missed payments.

But do I attempt to reclaim these administration costs after I've paid the loan or request that these costs be removed frrom my account?

I think you should claim them now.

If, at any future point, you are awarded these back, then you will probably find that they will be credited to the account in question, if the loan is still running at that time that is.

If, at that time, the loan has been repaid, they will issue a cheque.
