Default Hfa Bank

If you 'buy' anything on 'interest free credit' from PC World you will enter in a contract with the HFA BANK. Part of their conditions are that you pay by direct debit. I will not enter into direct debits. I like to be control of my account so will now only pay on-line, I obtained HFA's bank details and continued to pay them. Last and this month my payents were a few days late. I received a letter advising they were going to charge me £100 for the privildge and interest for every day that the account was not paid. I told them to take a hike.

Their reaction was to tell me that they would not release me from my contract at the end of the six month term (this allows me to pay them the purchase price of the lap top I was 'sold' by PC World (less the six monthly intalments they had already received)) until these charges were paid.

Quoting chapter and verse I told them that what they were doing was illegal. They said they had heard 'what was going on' but they didn't care. They wanted their charges and they would take me to court if I didn't pay them.

Looks like someone needs teaching that the law will be obeyed.

Bouns, if it were me, I would let them take me to court - the burden of proof then falls on them, not you.

However, tell them that if they default you or add any adverse records to your credit report that you will have no choice but to see that as defamatory.

For the sake of accuracy, are you sure it's Hfa, not Hfc? I have something with PC Worls, and it's Hfc, and yes, they're skating on thin ice with me too, although as I have been paying them large chunks, they haven't dared to add charges, but they have been relentless in phoning, because of me cancelling the d/d.

They are the pits when it comes to harassment, and despite the fact that I told them repeatedly not to phone, they keep on doing it. I then started blowing a whistle down the phone when they call, and they soon stopped

Let us know how you get on.

A briliant strategy. There are a few people who have been complaining of harrassing phone calls. This is the advice to give them

Just a word of warning.

If this resulted in damage to the ears of the person at the other end, the next call could be the police investigating an assault!

I bought a pc from pc world using hfc. A long story but they owe me around £500 in charges after missed payments. They didn't contact me for nearly a year despite claiming that they had tried without success numerous times. My number was a mobile with voicemail and I never had any missed calls with withheld numbers or messages. When I wrote to them asking why it had taken so long they admitted that the calls were made by an autodialler and it was only when they manually intervened (debt collection unit) that they were able to get through to me!

Incorrect. I gave fair warning to 3 different people this would happen, as I had repeatedly asked them not to keep on phoning, and that they were causing me a great deal of distress, and that I would treat this as a nuisance call/harassment.

As their contract is with my husband, and that I have told them he's not here, I have every right to defend myself in my home against what I perceive as a personal attack.

I had the same kinda deal with HFC when I was paying off my laptop. They would constantly ring my landline and time after time I demanded they didnt contact me at home and only use my mobile number. Everytime they had told me they had deleted my home number. But at 9pm some evenings they were ringing home. Luckily my parents knew about the loan.... otherwise I'd of had some explaining to do. But still not fair when I had stated it is my parents house and I do not wish to be contacted here.

Alot of the time they couldnt understand me and had to get another person to come onto the phone.

I am currently trying to get money back from NatWest.... I was chrged almost every month when I was paying HFC........ can I get these charges back too? has anyone had any luck with these? I think it was about £25 a month I was paying for late payment or bounced D/D. I will have to check! But I did pay hundreds in charges!
